There's a tropical cyclone alert on Réunion Island, where my daughter has been staying. The population is in lockdown, relying on their water reserves. As soon as the Préfet (governor) declared the emergency, Marion had her massive tattoo freshened up—because she’s not supposed to get it wet.

Why does this scene terrify me? No chases, no explosions—just characters sitting together, talking. Maybe that's the problem. No smoke and mirrors, no distractions. Just raw, unfiltered truth. And maybe that’s scarier than any explosion #writing #writingcommunity

Buongiorno, intanto.

In America, in Europe, ..., we are all in the whale's mouth. But it won't spit us out. Not without some convincing.

Been reading old emails from a friend who’s gone now. We used to debate: ‘Do you have to be Tolstoy to put your work out there?’ They thought so. I disagreed. So I wrote them a letter. Ghosts can be stubborn, but so can I: gioclairval.blogspot.com/2025/02/to-d...

HAPPY LUNAR YEAR!!!

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

My daughter (master's degree in Literature) told me when she was twenty, "We don't care about PoV shifts. We care about what happens to characters we care about." #writing #writingcommunity

The furnace is dead. The repairmen can't find the problem. My solution is twofold: I've bought a pretty infrared panel, and I've also bought a machine to make gelato.

I finished revising my novel! (Time to pop open a bottle of Prosecco rosé.) It’s done. Complete. Even if there are more edits to come, I’ve conquered the hardest part: I wrote the story I set out to tell. How cool is that?

Time to get to work—the final chapter awaits. The epilogue’s already in good shape, so today I’m running the last straight stretch! Don’t wish me luck, you jinxers. Stick to “Work well” or “Keep up the good work!”

I had that delicious tartare with olives Taggiasca and Hunters & Gatherers mayo, followed by dried prunes for dessert. Now I long for something sweeter. But it's against the law. (I'm trying to keep my fasting insuline as low as I can.) Curse you, sugar cravings, curse you!
