God, does it feel good to see a box score again— especially with a Sox rally in the 9th.

Oh sure, we’re all going to get a check. “But the math that could back up those checks is marred with accounting errors, incorrect assumptions, outdated data & other mistakes.” The creep’s appointees, besides being racist & venal, are woefully incompetent. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

Throwback, 2015: a great night @prairielights.com with the gifted @bonniejo.bsky.social — fellow despiser of Felon47— & a special friend— who would’ve swiftly consigned that fraud to the abyss.

This gets most of it, at least.

Polar vortex outside-- Iowa's notorious "Alberta clipper"-- & my wife & I are set up around the fireplace, with our computers. As the keyboards get going, it's a gentle indoor rainfall.

Travel day yesterday, two flights BOS—DSM, & the plane landed right side up each time. That’s it— that’s the post.

Spending a weekend in Cambridge with my sweet old Mom, 98– but who she really wants to talk with is her namesake great-granddaughter, Margaret Sage!

Great to see how this country used to honor & value its libraries — in this case Cambridge Public. Also great to find my books inside.

A response from Senator Grassley, oblivious to the destruction done by Musk & DOGE, acknowledging only that he’s “keeping a close eye on developments.” I’ll be calling & writing more, but meanwhile, I’ll have to clear my head…

Throwback, 10 years: flogging my then-new Selected Criticism, Dzanc Books, at Printers Row, Chicago & AWP, Minneapolis. Great times. (I believe I've got a fresh selection now; anyone care for a loook?)

Our country’s great center for arts & culture has fallen into the filthy hands of a man who knows nothing about either. Tragic day. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/a...

An excellent hack for the spineless Google. Enjoy & repeat.

Of course, I’m just a weary Boomer, but for me #KendrickLamar was the best part of the game. Of course I didn’t get it— & yet I did, I felt it. This morning I found some smart writing on the show, but I’ll just say it was #Dylan goes electric, Newport ‘65, all over again.

No Super Bowl to surpass sweet Peggy Sage!

Take 5 minutes for BENT, 1997, with #MickJagger at his swish & worldly best, as the Nazis’ “Night of the Long Knives” came down. “So, queers out, queers dead.” That’s how quick it can happen. Resist, resist. youtu.be/odlI-vouv2g?...

Great new piece from #Banksy.

Throwback, 7 years, going on 8: over in Napoli, a rare & wonderful visit & talk with the Words in Journey organization, with the gifted mover & shaker Angelo Cannavacciuolo.

“You need to feel in your bones the fact that… powerful people want to destroy the American library system so you can be ready to work at least as hard… to save it. Whatever the coming fight will be, it will be easier with libraries.” Josh Cook, @literaryhub.bsky.social. lithub.com/what-publish...

Great to hear #kendrickLamar dedicate his Grammy to LA. youtube.com/shorts/pP-cF...

For Sunday, let’s set aside everything else for Peggy Sage, starting with her celebration of the avocado.

This certainly clarifies things.

Throwback: my teenage copy of #JamesBaldwin, while in search of any comfort on a day when our Felon-in-Chief blames all minorities— in particular African-Americans— for the DC plane crash.
