As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

Five years ago, I reposted this piece about comic book pricing: tombrevoort.com/2020/02/23/b...

Hi new followers! If you want to read a book about fascist nerds for some reason, here you go!

The Monster & The Girl (1941) is the best any gorilla has ever looked in any movie

From Religious Studies at York Twitter account: The administration at York University has suspended admissions to the Religious Studies program . . . The faculty have written this statement. We ask you to will distribute it widely and write to York's administration to protest this decision.

This Day in Labor History: February 23, 1959. The AFL-CIO Executive Council, meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, passed a resolution to create the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee, an early attempt to organize the farmworkers at the bottom of the American labor force!!!!

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. The director of the hit mind-melter film SHOWER OF SCREAMS has released his new feature-length motion picture CRAWLERS OF DOOM for free on YouTube: youtu.be/t6de1aEQd3g

I respect any motherfucker who can paint the hell out of light & water

Pretty cool news for #gamedev projects. Already a great tool for personal note organization. Since files are plain text markdown, if combined with version control, you now have a project wiki maintainable by the entire team. Plus, you get strong review and revision history systems on top of that.

Take it easy, but TAKE it

True story: the last thing I did as Associate Editor of Studies in Romanticism was solicit this *very timely* forum on Transromanticsm - it has now been published in the current issue - and is OPEN ACCESS for 1 month. Thrilled to receive the issue in the mail too muse.jhu.edu/journal/754

I picked up "How Civil Wars Start" because of couple of skeets by @premeemohamed.com talking about it. It's definitely a lot. I was motivated to write a substantial review summarizing some of the main arguments of the book. Please take a look and I really recommend reading the full book. 💙📚 🗃️

Need some light Saturday reading? I've got you. For @ign.com I wrote about THE DEVIL'S GIFT (1984), how it may or may not have been influenced by Stephen King's "The Monkey" (c'mon), and then was cut down into *another* movie by the same director that appeared on MST3K. #HorrorSky

HOLY MOLEY IT’S AN ACTUAL BOOK. Jimmy Olsen’s SuperCyclopedia is in stores everywhere on April 1st (no foolin’), and you’ll hear about it a bunch in the coming months. Gonna ride the high off of this one all summer — heck, all YEAR — long. Big ups to @sandyjarrell.com and @kristyq01.bsky.social!

NEW: The importance of being litigious. Lawsuits matter — even when they might not "win." This afternoon, at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/the-import...

Yes, I AM jealous.

Doom.

I was feeling a way and made a t-shirt about it. You can get it (or stickers, or whatever) here, if you have similar feelings: www.teepublic.com/user/libertine (there’s also an edition with white text for printing on dark shirts)

This is entirely preventable. Science solved this problem more than 60 years ago.

New article, feels pointless, but in the end about making choices

Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park) has some thoughts that feel very relevant today:

[willem dafoe unprompted] now, this cookie monster. [toothy smile] what a creature, what a lust. it consumes him. [crosses legs] he’s really a tragic figure.
