I think this is a pretty fair take - obviously you can't cover all of Chinese urbanism and its promises and disappontments in 2000 words or so, but this does a good job. (The missing piece, I'd say, is a consideration of *what kind* of cities Westerners go to)

having sat through my share of useless "team building" activities, I will say that the one thing that has worked in making me feel closer with a team of coworkers/peers very fast has been drinking with them. Alcohol has very real social utility .
