What in tarnation "Figure 7 presents the average dietary creatine intake, cancer prevalence, odds ratio (OR), and p-value across different groups as percentages." AS PERCENTAGES?! www.frontiersin.org/journals/nut...

I'm pleased to announce the publication of a new review I worked on discussing the roles of the non-essential nutrients: retinol, vitamin K2, carnitine, and creatine in plant-based diets, and whether their absence or near-absence really is cause for concern. www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/17...

Another study finds that findings from observational studies and randomized trials in nutrition are concordant when matching the population, interventions and outcomes bmcmedicine.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.... #episky #epidemiology

Amazing to watch commentators and outlets attribute these findings to UPFs and seed oils when the study doesn't even look at this. The assumption that eating more linoleic acid -> higher tissue arachidonic acid enrichment has fueled so many handwavey hypotheses despite metabolic regulation

#nutrition nerds 🤓 ‼️ The scientific report of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee is live (this is the scientific report used to craft the Dietary Guidelines for Americans) Big focus this edition on chronic disease & life-stage specific recs, with a health equity lens DietaryGuidelines.gov

It's that time of year to bring out our @bmj.com xmas paper On the 12th Day of Christmas, a Statistician Sent to Me... from 2022 (w/ @richarddriley.bsky.social) with our list of commonly seen statistical faux pas🎄 www.bmj.com/content/379/... #StatsSky #EpiSky

New study finds vegetarians consume more of those SCARY ULTRA-PROCESSED FOODS. However, the UPFs consumed more often by vegetarians are not the pictured sweet treats, but plant milks and meat substitutes - which tend to improve health markers compared to animal foods. Awkward.

Environmental impact and cost to the consumer of meat, milk, and meat and milk alternatives. Much lower impact of all meat and milk alternatives. Unprocessed plant-based options best for both environmental impact and cost. Paper in PNAS by Marco Springmann (link in next post).

This was a fascinating meeting on UPF policies and I was happy to present some preliminary results of our ongoing RCT on mechanisms by which diets high in UPFs cause excess energy intake. Here’s a brief summary 🧵

Hello #cardiosky #medsky ! Newbie here. Happy to report I am going to make nerd humor my entire Bluesky personality. I am specializing in research and statistics memes. It’s likely that 99% of them will not be funny so feel free to laugh with or at me. Nerd humor is the best humor 🤓😂

One of the best papers addressing the “contradictory” evidence surrounding eggs and health outcomes. 🥚🫀 www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/...
