Ah, now there's an interesting snag. I want Dreambox to have networking features. For the high level WASM VM, this is easy - I can just add a quick socket API. But what about the low level "hardware version"... ?

Further update: Twister absolutely fucking despises the fact that Nova is wearing a cone. He has no idea what it is and it's freaking him out. He is actively avoiding being near her, despite usually being very close with her 😭

Trying to pick a goal w/ this, and I think I'm aiming for: - A design which could theoretically be implemented in an FPGA with unlimited resources - *Resembles* period accurate architecture, but not necessarily strictly bound to it (example: using RISC-V instead of MIPS)

Digging into this further: I feel like a few elements of this are beginning to diverge from Dreambox's feature set. I think I'm likely going to drop support for depth queries, and I'm strongly considering opting for a custom texture compression format which would break support for DXT images.

Update on this: Nova turned out to have a corneal ulcer. They've done some minor surgery and given us medicated eye drops & painkillers. Should clear up in ~10 days apparently. She is unhappy about the Cone of Shame, but currently snoozing on the couch w/ Cynder

Hm, I'm curious: how fast does it take a thread to resume if it's waiting on a WaitHandle? Like, could I run an emulated CPU in one thread, an emulated GPU in another, and use a WaitHandle to notify the CPU of Vsync interrupt? 🤔

Actually maybe I could give it a "unified memory" of sorts. The main things that would need to be transferred back and forth to make that work would be texture memory and rendered frame contents, and I could probably cache texture data easily enough...
