Lmao, Sega's Saturn SDK had a pretty neat high level "task" system where you could enqueue tasks to run on the second SH2 CPU and poll to check when they're done.... Except that if you call Synchronize at the end of your frame in order to wait for the next vblank, it also waits for all tasks 😐

One of the things that's actually kinda interesting about Sega's CD API for the Saturn is it has async support built right in. You give it a file handle to read & a buffer you want filled, and then you poll the file handle to check when it's done (at which point said buffer will contain read data)
