Paper alert: across 10k participants & 36 versions of the emotional dot probe task, task *reliability* cannot be distinguished from 0 (!). Raises very serious questions about the literature (how did so many find positive relations between this task and other variables). #PsychSciSky

1/4: New paper alert! Our paper investigating the psychometric properties of the predictive-inference task, a key paradigm for studying how we adapt to sudden environmental changes, is now out! w/ @seowxft.bsky.social @tobiasuhauser.bsky.social link.springer.com/article/10.3...

Lots of love and appreciation for the hot-takes session at #SAA2024. What a great idea to present ideas challenging predominant views and have the audience vote and comment on them 👌

Completed the first leg of my trip to #SAA2024 in Ann Arbor 🙌 First time attendee of this conference, so I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you 👋 Super interested in tracking cognition and mood over time and will present on using questionnaire response times for that 📝⏱️➡️🧠

We are taking applications for a 3-year POSTDOC position on the topic of tracking cognitive dynamics using passive smartphone sensor data, in clinical and non clinical samples with the Neureka app gillanlab.com/join-the-lab/ Closing June 1st. Pls share 🔁👍 or reach out with any informal queries!

So stoked to be at #cpconf2024 in July! Just heard I got a travel award, thank you so much to the CPC reviewers & committee ♥️ I'll present #DQRT in the poster highlights session, refresher linked below 😁 Very happy to chat! bsky.app/profile/glas...

Can the time it takes someone to fill in a digital survey tell us something about their cognitive function? 📢 Buckle up, I’ve got a preprint and a thread for you!  osf.io/preprints/ps...

Here we show that the human olfactory bulb can detect metabolic state, as evidenced by its response to fasting. This method enables the use of odors to study metabolic changes in health and disease (e.g., in eating disorders). Use it! #neuroskyence  www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

New paper! After working on that project for >5 years, our #RegisteredReport about #habits was published @CollabraOA: doi.org/10.1525/collab…. With 6 experimental tasks and 3 questionnaires, we dug into the measurement of habits in humans in the lab. 1/

Individual presentation accepted for #SAA2024 🥳 Going for the first time and I'm soooo excited to meet everybody!

Just a couple of weeks left to apply for this open postdoc position in my lab gillanlab.com/join-the-lab/ on the topic of cognitive fluctuations, with smartphone sensor data and fairly broad scope to make it your own!

When the heart inhibits the brain: cardiac phases modulate Short-interval intracortical inhibition www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

New preprint! Do men and women differ in their metacognitive abilities? In a new preprint, we detail robust differences in global and local metacognition which span multiple cognitive domains. Read all about our findings in this thread! #psychology #neuroskyence osf.io/preprints/ps...

New preprint w/ the WARN-D team (incl. @eikofried.bsky.social @rayyantutunji.bsky.social, @aljoscharimpler.bsky.social & others): We explain our exploration of EMA items in data of ~600 individuals. We investigate distributions/changes over time/context/interindividual differences & more

We are now taking applications for a 3-year POSTDOC position in the lab on the topic of tracking cognitive fluctuations using passive smartphone sensor data, in clinical and non clinical samples with the Neureka app gillanlab.com/join-the-lab/ Closing March 1st. Pls share 🔁👍

Today is the day that @realscide.bsky.social re-launches right here on Bluesky. If you understand German, please join us as we’ll feature a new amazing scientist every week!

Deadline January 4th to apply for this PhD position in my lab! Please share 🔁. 4 years of funding, working on apps, psychotic-like experiences, passive sensors and cognitive testing

So much still to learn about the vagus nerve but as a community we're seeing progress. Check out the interview for a nice overview on what we think vagus nerve stimulation does 👇

‚Science Advances‘ published our paper in which we asked: "Where does all the sugar go in the brain?" doi.org/10.1126/scia... Short answer and 4 main findings in 🧵 below. #funding: ERC_Research #neuroskyence

With Christmas feasts approaching, check out our new preprint on ghrelin and its association with mood (spoiler: ghrelin is more than a "hunger hormone")! /w lead from our amazing MD Rauda Fahed @neuromadlab.bsky.social /w @nbkroemer.bsky.social tinyurl.com/ykws98fn #neuroscience #MedSky

Proud day in the lab yesterday! Dr Sharon Chi Tak Lee @ctlee.bsky.social passed her viva with NO CORRECTIONS 🙌 Big thanks to examiners Clare Kelly clarekelly.bsky.social and Adam Chekroud for what I gather was a thoughtful and challenging viva. Way to go, Sharon!

A quick data simulation/visualization about being cautious when using difference scores.

Vagal signals are classically seen as inhibitory but there is lots of evidence suggesting they are way more adaptive than that. @nbkroemer.bsky.social and I packed them into an easily digestible TiCS review for you to feast on 🔥 50 day free access, and a little appetizer 👇 🧠🟦 tinyurl.com/bdh279jv

It’s happening. #jneurosci #sfn #openscience

First ever Gillan Lab retreat! We focused on theory building over 2 days based on ideas from @eikofried.bsky.social’s blog and all the great papers by others cited within…. In beautiful county Meath ☘️
