I love this new Fontaines single. Been hearing a few anti-Fontaines grumbles on here recently but I’m too old to worry about what’s in and what’s out so I’m just wallowing in their marvellousness all over again.

In Da Pub

You know what they say about Norwich. A pub for every day of the year, a church for every Sunday and a goal for every time Stoke’s defenders get caught pissing around in their own box.

Dobbin scores for Norwich. Too depressed to even make a donkey joke.

NME 21/2/76

No Hershey’s. Men of discernment.

At least it’s a bit warmer today. Although in the words of The Cult, here comes the rain. And then later in the words of the Eurythmics, here comes the rain again. As Travis used to sing, etc. etc.

So very sorry to hear that Rick Buckler has died. The Jam were that rarest of things - the biggest band in the land and also the one who meant the most at grassroots. And oh my word those wonderful records. Rick drummed like a sniper. You don’t make records that exciting without a sniper. RIP Rick.

Oh god I wish this had happened. From ‘Different Every Time’, Marcus O’Dair’s excellent biography of Robert Wyatt.

Hmm. I think most cultural commentators would say rock n roll’s golden era wrapped up rather earlier than 1989. Maybe they’re stretching it a bit to include Jive Bunny or something.

‘Pope Francis has been reading the newspapers and is in good spirits’. Christ he really is ill.

I discovered today that at the 1901 census my Kentish great-grandfather John Walter Kesby was a sergeant in the Buffs. Never been an empire man myself but quite proud of another Billy Childish connection (besides having a dog named after him).

I keep seeing posters around town where Stormzy is advertising McDonald’s. What a massive sellout he is. You can tell him that next time you see him. Leave my name out of it though.

I just paid £6 to drink a freezing pint of Guinness in a freezing fanzone but I didn’t mind because Lewis Baker Trouble Maker had just scored a pearler from inside his own bleedin half.
