I hand embroidered a tie for my mum's funeral. She began my embroidery journey 50+ years ago. I tried to combine her geometric needlepoint style with my contemporary style, and I used her favourite colour palette as a tribute and to celebrate her life and embrace her spirit.

I never had a problem standing up for myself until I became disabled. Because the thing about standing up for yourself is that you have to back it up with something. You have to be able to walk away or say no or not be dependant on that someone for survival to be able to hold your ground.
