Bruce Selya, a federal judge from Rhode Island whose vast vocabulary and widely cited opinions inspired generations of lawyers including a current Supreme Court justice, died Saturday at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was 90.

A Rhode Island federal judge plans to rule within a week on whether to further halt President Trump’s federal funding freeze, which sent states and organizations that rely on federal funding into panic back in January.
