Happy Mark Wahlberg's 40-Day Challenge to all who celebrate. See y'all in April.

When he's right, he's right.

I'll be the first to admit that Tolkien's writing can be stilted. But if the English language has produced a better end to a chapter than the final paragraph of "The Siege of Gondor" from "The Return of the King", I haven't read it. 30+ years after the first time I read it, and I still get chills.

Proud to #beumc today…these are the words of the united Methodist Church bishop who oversees Ukraine. #slavaukraini

I think today finally broke me. The FOTUS tried to shake down another country like a two-bit mafioso then threw a tantrum like a child, and his supporters see that as "strength". They're going to buy anything this con man sells forever.

The Lord: who protects immigrants, who helps orphans and widows, but who makes the way of the wicked twist and turn! Psalm 146:9

I've read a few history books, and "the president purged the military of anyone not personally loyal to him" is pretty much always when things take a turn for the really really bad.

Indeed! Thanks @jemartisby.bsky.social

This administration wants us dead.

Every day they claim they're finding vast amounts of fraud in the federal government. Fraud is a crime. They've made zero criminal complaints. Odd.

To put the Super Bowl half time show into perspective for middle aged Attitude Era fans, Kendrick did to Drake what The Rock did to Billy Gunn.

Gulf of America? Red White and Blueland? Not patriotic enough. Let's change every Noun and Verb in the English language to "USA". That'll fill the gaping void of our souls and get the price of eggs down. Sorry: USA USA the gaping USA of USA USA and USA the USA of USA down.

Because on Fridays, we wear maroon (and pink). #maroonfriday #hailstate

You don't say.

"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, selfappointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." - Federalist 47 (Madison)

I think what has really knocked the wind out of white liberals and moderates is *finally* realizing how many of their fellow white citizens, when offered the choice between a functional democracy or continued white supremacy, whole-heartedly have chosen white supremacy.

is it good or bad that a billionaire oligarch with close ties to foreign dictators is currently downloading the most sensitive information the us federal government has about its citizens to his own private servers?

Starting trade wars to make it easier to take over the government was literally the plot to the Star Wars prequels.

I'm struck by the near-total failure of leadership across civil society, in a country that fetishizes the concept. Whole sections of leadership books at every bookstore. Named, endowed "leadership" institutes and curricula across higher ed. Awards and special recognition for "leaders." AND YET

maybe there was actually a pretty good reason for the 14th amendment to have banned insurrectionists who tried to overthrow the government from serving in government and the decision to just decide it was a dead letter and ignore it was a horrible mistake?

Rewatching Community and the first paintball episode is still one of the greatest 22 minutes in television history.

They're saying "DEI" with a hard R.

The next two Sundays' gospel readings from the lectionary are about the time Jesus got up and preached an unexpected sermon about having mercy on the oppressed and then a bunch of people got mad at him. It's kind of like Scripture remains relevant.

If your sermon disturbs the most powerful person in the nation to the point that it keeps them awake at night, you've done your job as a preacher.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I don't know, man. The richest man in the world giving a sieg heil at the inauguration seems bad.

I stand with my trans siblings.

A bunch of folks with "Let's Go Brandon" bumper stickers are all of a sudden going to be very concerned about upholding decorum today.

I don't know; maybe "at the mercy of emotionally stunted billionaires" isn't the best form of social organization.
