I see the already historically unpopular president is exploring how to get the military invovled in “assisting” local law enforcement just a few weeks before the real shortages caused by his inept economic policy start hitting. Probably nothing to worry about.

39% approval is still too high for that man.

it couldn't be more obvious they are preparing for eruptions this summer and a subsequent crackdown

I’ve said that in the international arena, Trump acts like a trust fund kid spending down an account he thinks gets refilled by magic. The same is true in the courts. Judges have long offered a LOT of deference (a “presumption of regularity”) to DOJ’s representations. That’s getting eroded fast.

Donald Trump has lost nearly 10% of voters—almost 20% of his support—since his election last year. He’s done so largely because he’s pursued the policies he ran on, and most people hate them. Who is at fault for voters not understanding what he ran on? I’d say the press is largely culpable.

If members of the press are worried they didn’t give enough coverage to the cognitive decline of a sitting president, they have an amazing opportunity to make up for it right now.

True.👇 "Instead of toning down his behavior in the face of the legal losses and plummeting poll numbers, Trump doubled down this week and embarked on some of the most extreme acts of his second term so far." www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Call me old fashioned, but I think any president creating a meme coin hustle to recruit anonymous financial backers and rewarding the biggest spenders with “a night to remember” private dinner with the president kinda feels like an impeachable offense.

🚨NEW: Wisconsin judge threatens to go on strike in support of Judge Hannah Dugan, arrested by the FBI. Monica Isham: “I have no intention of allowing anyone to be taken out of my courtroom by ICE & sent to a concentration camp without the due process the constitutions we swore to support require.”👏

Using "recently deputized" ICE agents who don't follow procedure and perform arrests in plainclothes wearing masks and refuse to show badges is a great way to generate a violent situation. It's only a matter of time before these cowboys encounter "stand your ground" and it'll be 100% their fault.

if you know a lot of stuff i think it is your moral duty to be kind and excited when people learn stuff for the first time. the world is full of stuff we don't know about, don't be mean

ICE is now asserting it's a federal crime for bystanders to request that masked people in plain clothes show identification as they're handcuffing folks and stuffing them into unmarked vans.

"Some see".... Are the others blind?

THE RIGHT LATCHES ON TO EVERY WORD. You will NOT find a word that they will not weaponize. Period.

this is precisely how twitter would have been in germany in the 1940s

This is NOT what I was expecting

Sidebar from the Post. Good to remember, this is all illegal. Renegade executive branch gang doesn't decide budgets.

I have a theory that the collapse of civic virtue among political correspondents is linked to the collapse of local journalism as the route up.

i’m glad this shift is happening but damn does seeing stuff like this make me realize the average americans genuinely close to braindead

Effective Corporate Tax Rates 1950: 50% 2025: 13% Top Marginal Tax Rates 1950: 91% 2025: 37% If you’re curious as to why the rich have so much and you have so little, these are good places to start.

I cannot overstate how troubling it is to me that law enforcement - our most numerous first responders in this country - do not know what a fentanyl overdose looks like many years into a public health crisis of fentanyl overdoses. You also cannot overdose on fentanyl when there isn’t any fentanyl!

A new analysis by Stanford epidemiologists predicts that measles could become endemic again in the US in the next 20 years. This would be a catastrophic failure and a result of anti-vax propaganda. Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease that was declared eliminated in the US in 2000.

There are important things to be done through litigation, and by the states (with some overlap there), but for Congress, it's not a question of picking from a menu of options. Impeachment isn't a thing they should do, it's the only thing they can do, the only real power they have left at this point.

New in PN: Lisa Murkowski reveals the ugly nature of Trump's rule "Trump is not a normal president who governs through persuasion and political savvy. He constantly resorts to coercive threats. A system where that becomes normal isn’t a democracy. It’s a reign of terror."

* Resist listening to cynical clickbait scribblers who shrug at evil and tell you awful and imperfect are basically the same * Limit your exposure to people lacking object permanence

So to sum up the Wisconsin arrest issue: ICE didn't have a juridical warrant. They only had an administrative warrant. The DOJ has not convened a grand jury to indict the judge. They only got a criminal complaint before a magistrate judge. This is ridiculous.

you can explain all of them with it? Trump is a feudalist. He truly believes a select few should rule with impunity and absolute power over their lessers. So do the billionaires who support him. What we have here is a bunch of untitled wannabe rulers trying to speedrun establishing a feudal state

People want to consume media that flatters them instead of challenging them, and there’s now a way to do that at scale, and that incentivizes the production of it. This synergizes well with something @opinionhaver.bsky.social said that has really stuck with me:

This could end up being wildly prescient or even more off-base, but I think there is a decent chance Trump doesn’t serve out his term. He’s at 40% already, doing Watergate level crimes on a daily basis, and the impacts of his idiotic “policies” have only begun to be felt. Anything’s possible!

I keep seeing people comparing this to Watergate, but this is much worse

They’re arresting white judges in swing states now, if you’re trying to determine how safe you are

so, arresting judges should be more than enough reason for complete obstruction at in the house and senate. complete obstruction. anything you can do. interrupt proceedings, deny consent, holds on nominations. everything.

my endorsement for any democratic presidential candidate who promises to send the entire DOGE team to prison

Underappreciated story: the potential for distributed energy to spark a bottom-up economic revolution in emerging economies.

Trump take egg

It’s incredible that now the *best case* scenario is basically Trump engaging in a humiliating climb-down, but having already inflicted permanent damage and uncertainty that never be undone.

This is archetypally impeachable. Trump’s innovation is to just announce it publicly, so it gets framed as a controversial political choice instead of what it is: a crime against the Constitution.

By contrast, "deep state" was a term people used all the time in casual conversation before 2017 bsky.app/profile/noma...

It's only in a broken unhappy nation that you have to think about the president many times a day. On top of everything else, narcissists are just...exhausting

I’ve seen a very heartening number of Jewish people loudly proclaim that they don’t want to see due process gutted in the name of protecting them and I think it’s time we started to see more of that from Christians

Because the feds have been grabbing citizens, and SCOTUS held (5-4) the petition must be filed in the district of confinement, and the feds could move people anywhere, this means everyone in the country needs to have lawyers in all 94 U.S. district courts ready to file habeas petitions for them.

The most "unifying" politician of my lifetime is Barack Obama, who tried to bring radicalizing conservatives back from the brink with his unwavering moderation in all things and his overlooking of the Bush admin's criminality. Instead, they saw a Black President and it broke their brains.

In point of fact, both got no due process. Laken Riley didn’t get any due process because she was a victim of murder by another individual. Kilmar Abrego Garcia didn’t get any due process because he is a victim of human trafficking between two governments who haven’t respected any of his rights.

"Some officials say U.S. citizens who criticize administration policies could be charged with crimes" I always wondered how mainstream journalism would cover an impending dictatorship here. Now we know.

man, it's just absolutely bizarre to see so many institutions tucking tail and running from trump, even as he's underwater *on every single issue, including immigration* in less than 100 days. total elite failure.
