DENY, DEFEND, DEPOSE

A rap battle is two men writing poems about each other

I started being regularly published when I was 25. I didn't make my first dollar writing until I was 30. I didn't sell my first novel or screenplay until I was 35. Many of you hadn't even heard of anything I'd written until I was over 40. You have time. There is no expiration date on writers.

Ban pharmaceutical ads!

When liberals argue with me that guns are ontologically evil, this is the example I use. People died for the rights you enjoy, and the ruling classes will kill more if prompted. Being unarmed isn't being anti-violence, it's being harmless.

Let’s run the government like a business, drive the car like a bicycle, and play the guitar like a piano

Capitalism is a global epidemic that only changes its face but never its actions.

"Disrupt" is code for "Destroy reliable established services so that money previously widely distributed now funnels into a single source." Just like "AI" is code for "Mine the work humans did in the past so we don't have to pay them for their work in the future." That's why VCs like both words.

For me when I find someone attractive it feels like all the skin on my head is suddenly too tight and also a little voice in my head says BE CLEVER NOW which of course always works exactly as intended Fortunately I am well versed in not making this anyone else's problem so they never know BUT STILL

My one constructive criticism on BlueSky, as a community: we need to “like” less and “retweet” more. In the absence of an algorithm, that’s the way we find each other and reward good content.

Every day I tap the sign. From Marcus Aurelius's Meditations.

"We need to be idealistic with bare knuckles fighting spirit" is an incredible line I'll be stealing. Well said, thank you.

Someone very special just entered my life. I'm steadily realizing just how special, and she fills all of these.

I know BlueSky is on to something because all the worst people you know are raging against it

Could not be more accurate. Tearing down the barriers to writing *is* how you get yourself to write.

Good lord my house is so clean I may have to write my book

promoting yourself as an artist is so frustrating because you’ll feel like you’re shoving your stuff down everyone’s throats and then there’s someone like “wait u have a comic???”

Someone called this mass exodus from Twitter ‘the fall of the Broman Empire’ and I died laughing. 💀

• Between Two Fires — Christopher Buehlman • Train Dreams — Denis Johnson • Tampa — Alissa Nutting • Satantango — László Krasznahorkai • Moneyball & The Big Short (I can't pick between them) — Michael Lewis Been a very good, very diverse year of reading.

I feel like videogames actually do provide a pretty accurate representation of real life right now because a lot of videogames are like “THE WORLD IS ENDING” and then you just collect herbs and pretend nothing is wrong

Saying that elden ring should have an easy mode in a room full of men just to feel something

Okay but hear me out: A nighttime bookstore in which the only lighting comes from lanterns, tea is served to all who enter, there is an emotional support owl in each section, and a buy one / get one free sale occurs during every full moon.

The next few years are going to be tough, but just remember what Anne Herbert said: "Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries." The best time to join your local library is right now - if you have not already done so!

My music hot take is that Now And Then shouldn't have been a Beatles song—it would've been better as just the last John Lennon song.

i wish non-artists would connect their frustration about how "nothing looks cool anymore" with the fact that artists are given less freedom and opportunities in industrial design and user interfaces. we still have creative people and beautiful things, that never went away
