We’re looking forward to your proposals!

The calls for #2025SVP symposia, field trip and workshop proposals are now live. Please consider proposing and get in contact if there's anything the local host committee can do to support! vertpaleo.org/call-for-202... vertpaleo.org/call-for-202...

For this #FossilFriday an old favourite, the beautiful skull of the Triassic archosaur Erythrosuchus in the collections of the Evolutionary Studies Institute, Jo’burg

Here we go! @semifossorial.bsky.social made magic happen with a complete re-description of Milleropsis pricei, a millerettid "parareptile" that is showing us a LOT about how reptiles evolved during the #Permian. This work was a big collaboration with colleagues in South Africa and at the @esrf.fr

I am so pleased that this work is out and will kick off quite a bit of 2025 early, and near, amniote paleontology coming out of the Peecook lab!

For the first #FossilFriday of 2025, here's my annual thread looking back on the #temnospondyl research that came out last year! In general, papers were skewed towards anatomical descriptions of specifically European taxa that were predominantly from Triassic deposits. πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡ (1/30ish)

The one and only Stegosaurus for #FossilFriday at the Field Museum. I’ve always been struck by the long femora 🦴 on these animals. #notfast Behind it is a real treasure: a near 98 year old mural πŸ–ΌοΈ by Charles Knight.

It’s the deer time of year 🦌 ❄️ This is Cervalces at the @romtoronto.bsky.social, a genus of moose 🫎 that sleighs. #FossilFriday

The one that started it all

#FossilFriday: one of the most complete (stapes in place!) skulls of Tyrannosaurus rex, the Tufts-Love rex on display at the @burkemuseum.bsky.social in Seattle. πŸ¦– It’s a beauty!

Paleo folks in the western US: The Western Association of Vertebrate Paleontology's 2025 conference will be held Feb 14-16 in Mesa AZ w/Arizona Mus. of Nat. History: wavp.us/wavp-2025/ WAVP is fun, low-key, and great for early career researchers. Hope to see you there! @utahpaleo-ufop.bsky.social

β€œNew” fossils for #FossilFriday: this is an impressive brontothere thoracic vert I found low in the White River Formation of Wyoming. The neural spine is so long! Brontotheres might look like rhinos 🦏 , and the are perissodactyls, but last I understood they were on the horse stem! 🐴

Two Triassic dicynodonts, Angoisaurus and Placerias These two illustrations will be part of my upcoming book (that I am STILL working on) about the tetrapods of the Triassic #paleoart #sciart #triassic #dicynodonts #synapsids

A gorgon turned to stone for #FossilFriday. This is the forever smile of Gorgonops, a biostratigraphically important mammal-cousin from the early late #Permian of the mid-Zambezi Basin, #Zambia. πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡²

Chances are the πŸ¦ƒ on your table didn’t come with the feet still on it, so you won’t see the awesome spurs! And just for fun: here’s an #Idaho #fossil turkey foot, with spur(!) from the last interglacial period. This turkey knew some mammoths! πŸ¦ƒ 🦌 🦣 🦁 🐴 πŸͺ 🦬 Happy Thanksgiving 🍽

It's Thanksgiving in the US today! I thought it would be nice to do a sketch study of the Ocellated Turkey, a species of turkey found as far south as the YucatΓ‘n Peninsula, Mexico, and parts of Belize and Guatemala. Much more colorful than the Eastern US turkey. πŸ¦ƒ #BirdArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt

Saying hello to an old friend at the ESI in Johannesburg - Big Momma the neotype of Massospondylus

Uh... this is a sweet pareiasaur!
