Hello from sunny, hot and bleak Los Angeles- we are down here at Pershing Square in DTLA, a protest is planned to kick off at 5. Small crowd building, cops cars cruising by.

👀 ABSOLUTELY UGLY numbers for Trump/MAGA's big ugly bill: ONLY 27% of voters approve it Just 67% of Republicans support it Just 10% favor Medicaid cuts 58% of voters want Cong to "act a stronger check on Trump's power" Spread the news around. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/11/u...

Ramos. Lmao

NEW POLL from Public Policy Polling, conducted June 6-7 Zohran Mamdani - 35% Andrew Cuomo - 31% Undecided - 11% Brad Lander - 9% This is the first poll to show Mamdani ahead of Cuomo in the NYC mayoral race.

Rest in peace, Brian Wilson. Loved his music since I was a kid. Was deeply affected by the documentary about him, I JUST WASN'T MADE FOR THESE TIMES. Bless him and his family and friends.

Hey, everybody! Join @chenoweth.bsky.social, @fieldsmeyer.com, and me at noon on Wednesday to talk about the past evolution and future trajectory of the concentration-camp regime we're now living inside—and how we can save the country. Virtual and free! But you must register.

oops

Tear gas can cause long-term health consequences by making people more susceptible to contracting respiratory illnesses, including COVID. The chemical agent can also hurt people inside their homes if it seeps into residential neighborhoods. What you need to know (published 2020):

Full riot gear, massive line of them, armed and trigger happy: all scared shitless of a woman in shorts trying to get home. Disgusting.

Every major Dem politician needs to realize that, in this environment, they can schedule a "speech to the nation," like Newsom did, and get tons of media coverage. Just do it.

ngl this map of scheduled protests for this weekend is *wild*

It took protesters to whoop Trump’s ass the last time he was in office, and it looks like protesters are the only ones up to the task this time too.

It is completely necessary to support Newsom as a governor fighting an authoritarian president and keep in mind that he has shown himself with incredible clarity to be an individual unworthy of trust who broke the sound barrier in normalizing authoritarianism for personal gain.

Lots of folks are expressing dismay over having to cheer on Gavin Newsom. So remember: We are loyal to the policy, not the politician. Oppose those who do the wrong thing, even when they are otherwise good people. Support those who do the right thing, even when they are loathsome shit weasels.

They are good in many other ways also.

This protest movement is going to spread. People are going to need to get comfortable with discomfort. There are going to be inconveniences. There are going to be tense moments. There’s going to be violence. None of this is easy. We didn’t ask for this fight but the fight is here.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the Democratic Party has lost its way because it is "disconnected from kitchen table issues" and also criticizes Zohran Mamdani for wanting to raise taxes on the wealthy in order to provide more services for working-class people. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

NOW — I’m at the ICE OUT OF NEW YORK protest in Foley Square.

Trump, talking at Fort Bragg right now about Los Angeles, is doing something I'm not sure I've ever seen a president do: he's actively maligning people in Los Angeles — an American city — in front of U.S. troops. And the troops are applauding. As an Army brat myself, this strikes me as very new.

This is unbelievable. Cathy Young -- the abysmal corporate shill who runs Seattle city council -- says that whiny NIMBY single-family homeowners aren't being listened to *enough*. I genuinely can't think of a group of people who have been indulged more, for longer, to worse effect.

This was always clearly the objective and many in the media also insisted on treating anyone who said so clearly like they were some kind of lunatic bsky.app/profile/carn...

This is future YIMBYs want!

If you’re a member of the U.S. military, remember that you have a duty not to follow unlawful orders. Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), the “superior orders” defense does not apply to orders that violate the law.

In the middle of all of this, I have been so heartened by the dedication of the principals and teachers at our LAUSD schools, who have taken every opportunity to reiterate loudly and firmly that they are here for *all* our kids.

Democratic politicians and liberal pundits bemoaning the LA protests need to understand that as *their* failure. None of this would be happening if they had offered effective resistance to mass deportation (extraordinary rendition, in truth) instead of considering undocumented people expendable.

This was four weeks before the election:

Based on videos I have seen from LA, it is now the norm for law enforcement to shoot "non-lethals" at people protesting if there is no obvious basis for doing so. And they are also intentionally shooting at the press covering the event. Does the First Amendment exist in the US anymore?
