@thatemfagan.bsky.social Proud to introduce C-211 to make it easier for people with disabilities to obtain the benefits they are entitled to and to reduce the paperwork load on health care workers. Each Disability Tax Credit form takes up to 1 hr to complete.

Hey Class of '25, this isn't just a graduation, it's your launch. The world is waiting for you, and let's be real, it needs you — your passion and your energy. More than ever, your ideas will matter, your values will matter and your voice matters. Most of all, congrats, Grads….you’ve got this.

On June 18th, I rose in the House of Commons to honour the life of Moonaquin mit (Stephen Charleson), a proud member of the Hesquiaht nation and the House of Kinquashtakumtlth. Stephen recently passed to the other side. May he rest in peace and may we honour his memory with action and respect.

Big congratulations to my friend Naheed Nenshi on his by-election win! A strong, principled voice for Albertans, and for Canada. People-centred politics in high gear!

My heartfelt thanks to the people of Tseshaht First Nation for their warm welcome and incredible hospitality on Indigenous Peoples Day. It was an honour to join in the celebrations on your territory. Your strength, culture and generosity continue to inspire. Thank you for sharing this special day.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day! Grateful to have joined the celebration at Port Alberni Friendship Centre on Friday, an inspiring day of culture, community & pride. Let’s keep walking the path of truth & reconciliation every day.

Thnx to my friend Clayoquot Biosphere Trust Executive Director Rebecca Hurwitz for taking time to brief me on the work of its Biosphere Interpretive Centre during my visit to Tofino last week. Looking forward to another UNESCO Biosphere Day on The Hill in this Parliament.

Thnx to SM Leduc & Sarah Kennell from the Canadian Mental Health Assn policy team for mtg about my Private Member’s Bill C-201 to bring universal mental health care to all Canadians. Lack of access to community mental health services costs Canadians, our economy, and our broader health care system.

Thx to Energy Minister Hodgson for taking time to meet with me yesterday to discuss extending federal Investment Tax Credits (ITC) to the forestry sector for using biomass to generate clean energy which could create 600,000 long-term jobs based on current production levels.

I asked the Minster Hodgson if his govt has forgotten its promise to extend eligibility for investment tax credits to the biomass forestry sector. In Port Alberni, Domtar Catalyst Paper Mill made the switch to generating electricity from biomass & now 88% of its emissions are from that source.

Thank you to Dr. Ricardo Manmohan for the hoodie to thank me for my longstanding support for the All Nations Youth Warriors, which he founded with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ community of Hitacu in 2015 and has since expanded throughout the coast. The program is transformational for young Indigenous men.

No doubt the unjustified Trump trade war opens an opportunity to buy and build at home, ensuring workers and Indigenous people benefit. This legislation is too important to get wrong. We need to take the time in parliament to get this right which is why I won’t support fast-tracking the bill.

It was my very great honour to be asked again by tournament organizer Cumberland Councillor Sean Sullivan to drop the ball to kick off the annual Cumberland Cup -- in the company of Mayor Vickey Brown and Minister Josie Osborne!

Following the Miners Memorial Graveside Vigil, we gathered at the Cumberland Chinese Cemetery. The Japanese and Chinese cemeteries are sacred grounds which bear witness to the profound contributions of these communities to Cumberland’s mining industry.

Today and everyday I stand with @cupwsttp.bsky.social Canada Post must respect the union's request for arbitration to end the dispute fairly and expeditiously. Posties are fighting not only to protect rights of their workers but to protect the public postal service for all people across Canada.

Great News! MP Gord Johns (Courtenay-Alberni) has tabled Bill C-206, an Act to establish a national strategy on brain injuries in the House of Commons today. Brain Injury Canada is fully committed to bringing the strategy to reality. Follow this link to learn more: www.parl.ca/LegisInfo/en...

Minister Long seems to be suggesting I think taxes should be increased on corporations as punishment because they are "bad", when really it Is because they just need to pay their fair share.

Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads in our communities. Today we honour the love, strength, and steady support you give every day. A special shout-out to my own dad: I wouldn’t be who I am without you.

Congrats to the amazing ADSS students & their teachers for such a wonderful honouring of the people who have been impacted by residential schools and other devastating colonial policies with an orange crosswalk, plaque and flagpole. They turned a class project into a lesson for the whole community.

On Tues, I was pleased to attend a parliamentary breakfast in Ottawa hosted by the National Police Federation, a great opportunity for me to speak about policing issues in Tofino and Ahousaht and how the lack of Indigenous Funding puts public safety at risk and is not fair to RCMP members.

Thx to Minolli Thabo for her outstanding contribution to my parliamentary office over two years. Minolli joined our team as a paid Intern from the University of Ottawa and agreed to stay on as a part-time staffer when her internship expired. Best wishes Minolli and thank you for your hard work!

We were on #ParliamentHill this week, meeting with members of the newly elected Parliament to elevate key priorities: better access to care, increased research funding, and greater affordability for people affected by #Parkinsons @gordjohns.bsky.social @bencarrwpg.bsky.social

Yesterday, with my NDP colleagues, I stood with members of the Global March to Gaza, human rights advocates travelling to the Rafah border to demand humanitarian access to Gaza. I commend their bravery and share the call for Canada to demand access for humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

June is Brain Injury Awareness Month and I introduced Bill C-206 for a national strategy to raise awareness about the impacts of brain injuries. I am deeply honoured to carry this very important work forward and I hope all members will support this important bill.

You never know who you are going to bump into on a sunny day in Ottawa. One of the most popular mayors in Canada during his three terms in Calgary and now Leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party….Naheed Nenshi, no less! I only had time to wish him well in his upcoming by-election.

With wildfires raging, there is nothing in the Liberal supply bill to fund greener homes, for heat pumps, to create energy efficiency & lower costs or says the gov't understands a climate emergency. It's occurring every year, when will they take this seriously?

Great to celebrate World Environment Day with MP Elizabeth May, Minister Julie Dabrusin and David Suzuki on Thurs. Julie and I have worked and served on the executive of the all party climate caucus together for years. Many transformational challenges facing us all if we are to save our planet.

Coulson Aviation in my riding is deployed regularly to nations around the world using their aerial firefighting capacity to help fight wildfires. It is past time that the federal government developed the necessary capacity to do the same for provinces and territories in our own country.

I was happy to lend my support to the Edmonton Oilers last evening & I will continue to do so until they have won four games and brought the Stanley Cup back to Canada, where it belongs! Thanks to my colleague Edmonton MP Heather McPherson for welcoming a die-hard Canucks fan like me to Oilerland!

I am very saddened to hear of Marc Garneau’s passing. A pioneer, public servant, a respected colleague and a wonderful human being. Canada has lost a remarkable leader. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

“In this time of crisis where we need to create a more resilient economy and we must empower municipalities to lead the way.” NDP MP @gordjohns.bsky.social at #FCM2025AC. Modernizing the fiscal framework and removing trade barriers are key to building a more resilient economy across the country.

Thank you to Parksville’s Mayor O’Brien, Council and staff for raising the Pride flag on Monday. Wishing everybody a heartfelt and joyous Pride Month!

Happy World Bicycle Day and the beginning of 'Bike To Work Week' in British Columbia. The weather channel says it’s perfect conditions back home so get out there on your bikes but, as always, stay safe!

Our great NDP MP Leah Gazan just won approval for her motion to hold an Emergency Debate in the House of Commons on the wildfires menacing Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Once again - NDP MPs punch above our weight and make a real difference in Parliament!

On Saturday, I joined my colleague MP Leah Gazan, CUPW President Jan Simpson, CLC Executive Vice-President Siobhán Vipond in solidarity with Postal Workers in Ottawa. Let's keep fighting together to protect and expand public postal services across Canada.

Last week I stood with my colleague MP Lori Idlout as she called for an emergency debate on the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal order on Jordan’s Principle and the government’s cancellation of the Nunavut food program for children. Please take four minutes to watch Lori's video on YouTube.

An honour to addresst the 30th Anniversary of the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) on May 22nd in Vancouver. The Institute was created in 1995 to help reduce the socio-economic costs of disabilities to workers, employers and society.

Attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference and getting so much from it. Heard today from Elizabeth May, Melissa Lantsman and Gord Johns. People like Lantsman make parliament a battle zone. May and Johns talked about policy and working together. #strongertogether

The road to a stronger, more resilient Canada runs through our communities. Thanks to the @ndp.ca MP @gordjohns.bsky.social for the engaging conversation on your vision for meaningful collaboration between orders of government at #FCM2025AC. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

Thank you to MP Salma Zahid for inviting me to meet with ‘Doctors against Genocide and Dr. Yipeng Ge. MP’s in attendance were presented with compelling evidence of starvation and catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza & immediate actions required by Canada, which I support.

One of my first actions as a new MP in 2015 was to distribute pins for the Moose Hide Campaign to Parliamentarians. There are so many first-time MP's in the House of Commons so on Wednesday, I came to work early and placed a letter and a pin on the desk of each M.P.

Up-island NDP MP re-introduces mental health service access bill in Parliament this week #YYJ #BCnews MP for Courtenay-Alberni Gord Johns joins Al: www.iheart.com/podcast/962-...

I let my frustration show in the House today as I sponsored a petition calling on the government to develop enforceable federal standards for ship recycling that meet or exceed those set out by the European Union. It is the 4th year that I have tabled this petition with no action. Give up? No way!

Thanks to PM Carney for taking time to hear me out on the importance of the forestry sector in British Columbia as part of the diversification of our economy in response to the Trump threats. I also invited Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hodgson to the Alberni Valley.

Today I introduced the first PMB of the 45th Parliament. Bill C-201 aims to bring mental health, addictions & substance use services into our universal, public healthcare system. No one should go without the care they need because of out-of-pocket costs.

Today, my heart and my prayers are with family and friends in Manitoba, with all those forced from their homes and with first responders working around the clock. In times like these, we are reminded how important it is to stand together. Sending strength, love and courage from Vancouver Island.
