#AcademicSky #AcademicPublishing "Breaking news", there is no news! Academics everywhere, checking the journal portal for update status on manuscripts.... .... truly get the "breaking news" aspect of there being no news from the conclave.

#AcademicSky #PsycSciSky Yesterday we had the honour of Peter Suedfeld, @ubcpsych.bsky.social social psychologist & Holocaust survivor, speaking at Brock. Topic: psychological resilience in the face of severe trauma. He closed with these thoughtful words:

#MetaAnalysis shows SES & prosociality positively correlating. psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/202... But it's only mean r = .065! (p < .05) In practical terms, wealthier people are NOT meaningfully more generous. Maybe they should be taxed more? They don't seem to help more w/ advantages they have.

Canada has a lot going for it. But it has much to feel shame about too. The treatment of Indigenous peoples front and foremost. But also how it turned away Jewish people during the Holocaust. Read below for more problems.

Wow, Navarro allegedly made up a fake reference (based on an anagram of his own name!) to make a point in his book. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... Add that method to "people are saying", and you're all set, I guess.

Happy May Day (International Workers Day) Remember, unions brought you all the stuff you love at work (e.g., safety) & in your personal life (e.g., weekends, time with family). Even if you aren't in a union, unions have shaped your work & life experience for the better. Solidarity.

Celebrating 80th anniversary of Canadian troops helping to liberate Netherlands. www.canada.ca/en/veterans-... Canada is quick to help others. Both historically & currently.

Sorry, but I've gotta be that reviewer. Saying the economy is good once you factor out the tariffs? WOW. That's liking saying Dexter would be a great member of your forensic team, once you covary out his psychopathy. (doi.org/10.1080/0022...) www.cnbc.com/2025/04/30/t...

I love Britain. Genuinely. But I can never understand why so many people there wear their outdoor shoes indoors. As you'd expect, it is not healthy (read below) www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Canadian election = e.g. of healthy democracy ✳️ 5-week campaign, w/ spending limits (keeps big money impact low) ✳️ automatic registration of voters, plenty of polling stations; easy voting, short/no queues ✳️ losers conceded their loss instantly ✳️ no violence In Canadian parlance: a "beauty"

If people imposing tariffs think that tariffs won't increase prices... .... what do they think tariffs actually DO? (serious question) I mean, tariffs increase prices to nudge purchases toward X and away from Y. How else do they "work", if not by raising prices? www.cnn.com/2025/04/29/b...

Why do Americans care what happens in the first 100 days of a Presidency? Does any other Western nation make it a "thing"?

Election day, Canada. Do it, people.

"Gen X men are the first generation of men who were basically not guaranteed a wife regardless of their behavior." Most poignant observation I've seen online in ages. (I'll add: Western men are threatened now that women don't "need" men as they literally needed previously, such as for banking).
