This is America.

At the start of this year, three of the institutions most important to American cultural preservation—the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History—were run by women for the first time. As of today, Trump has fired two of those three.

In the 1980s, the US experienced one billion-plus dollar extreme weather disaster on average every 4 months. Today? There’s one every 2 weeks, and 9 in 10 Americans say they’ve felt the impacts. Clearly, this is the record to cut—if you don’t want to show how climate change is hitting home.

Conclave Selects First Chicago-Style Pope

You mean to tell me that Chicago gets to claim Michael Jordan, the first Black President AND the first American Pope? Good lord you ain't going to be able to tell them NOTHING.

Trans service members are service members. They’ve flown in combat, led troops into battle, and risked their lives to protect us. Trump’s ban on trans people serving in the military— which SCOTUS temporarily allowed to take effect— takes away our freedom and makes us less safe.

once again my full throated support and endorsement for any democrat who pursues criminal legal accountability for the DOGE boys. and i’d be fine with shipping these guys to the Hague

The Trump Administration is basically defunding the UPenn lab that made the Covid vaccine possible and won the Nobel Prize for its research. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/08/u...

Amid all the other news, it's easy to become inured to the basic facts here. Öztürk: -Is not accused of committing any crime -Is nonviolent -Was in this country legally -Merely engaged in speech that the administration objects to -Has been locked up for six weeks

i am explicitly pro-technocrat because we are seeing the alternative

We're the bad guys

Conservative prosecutors under Biden said that his testimony was confused and can't be relied on, and it was a multi-week, breaking-news-push-notifcation news story. Conservative lawyers WORKING FOR TRUMP said that his remarks are confused and can't be relied on and it won't make page A18 tomorrow

the fundamental disconnect between the manosphere and reality is that they are incapable of understanding that this is - according to every woman I’ve ever met - the sexiest thing a man has ever done

At which point she will have spent nearly two months behind bars for the crime of writing an op-ed.

In a series of unpublicized revisions, DOJ removes references to trans people & gender from critical crime-data surveys Reports @theappeal.org

Which Trump officials will be on Fox today blaming Biden for stuff when they should be doing actual work for the American people at their agencies? At this point, taxpayers are just paying the salaries for a bunch of daily Fox contributors.

Details on Khalil and the Jena prison he is confined in: - saw child for the first time via 9 photos printed at Walmart - lost 15-20 lbs b/c of vile food - dorms sleep 70 to room in 35 bunks - lights on 24/7 - dorms are kept frigid - the facility was fixed up in advance of congressional visit

Your School House Rock moment......

This is a shockingly mistaken understanding of due process by Stephen Miller. It is likely this misunderstanding that is informing the President’s misunderstanding.

Good piece from @nberlat.bsky.social on women candidates open.substack.com/pub/noahberl...

"On a weekly basis more than 90% of people use weather forecasts, job market reports, food safety warnings and other information that is based on federal science. But only 10% ... are concerned that cuts to federal support for science might impact their access to [it]." www.npr.org/2025/05/06/n...

NEW: The Trump administration’s slashing of budgets and staff have Great Lakes scientists concerned that they have lost the ability to protect the public from toxic algal blooms, which can kill animals and sicken people. By @annaleighclark.bsky.social

>Hegseth cut off weapons to Ukraine without telling anyone >he’s cutting Strykers, JLTVs and M-10s >he was using even more Signal chats for official business >he’s randomly slashing the number of General Officers >we’re gonna use AI for C3I HAHA BUT LOOK HE DID SOME PUSH-UPS WITH SOF GUYS!!!

This kind of journalism has never been more important. It needs shared widely.👏 60 Minutes cataloguing the state-sponsored extortion of the legal system under Trump. Virtually no-one would go on camera such is the climate of fear. Government by The Mob, exposed.

Nothing to see here. Just @emilyjaynef.bsky.social being forcibly removed from NY-17 Rep. Mike Lawler's town hall tonight for having the temerity to act like a citizen of the United States. Hero.

"America is never going to return to a functioning — let alone thriving — democracy as long as we pretend that it’s not a crime to sell access and influence in the White House for coins that go straight into the pocket of the president or his children." share.inquirer.com/csKOvc

🧵 NY-17 Rep. Mike Lawler had a local social worker physically dragged out of his town hall Sunday night. Emily Feiner was singled out by private security, lifted out of her seat, as the crowd chanted “let her stay” and “shame, shame.” She’s a constituent. Not a threat. Fascism again.

Fourth May Be With You, as they say in Europe.

other reports have this baby in foster care, and I am more than a little bit curious about who the foster family is and what their relationship to this decision might be

USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has opened up 73 jobs to internal candidates. They include roles just vacated by people who are receiving full pay and benefits through September.

Apropos of nothing here’s a picture of the Nazi Mother’s Crosses (displayed in the National WWII Museum) awarded to German women who birthed a certain number of children.

The sheriff who’s getting a pass slammed a woman onto the ground, pushed his knee into her back, then pepper sprayed her twice in the face.

Just a reminder that most of Trump's executive orders are nothing more than press releases. After he ordered the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to pull funding for NPR and PBS, the CPB responded that it is authorized and funded by Congress and is not subject to the president's authority.

The message being that anything that stops Black people from swimming in shit is “DEI”

Per a new @brookings.edu poll, most Americans (rightly) do not see the Trump administration's approach toward universities as being about combating antisemitism. www.brookings.edu/articles/pol...

Calling it "illegal DEI," Trump issues EO to shut down a program redirecting human waste away from a rural Alabama area regularly flooded with sewage during climate-change-amplified storms. The area's population is over 72% Black. www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/...

Ron Johnson heard all that and has now twice voted to keep these tariffs in place anyways.

Okay, but in exchange for fewer and more expensive consumer goods, at least we’re getting lower economic growth and higher unemployment!

Is anything more perfect than republicans being like, “we are going to ban anti semitism unless it’s from christians, then it’s ok”

CHINA FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOX: "Let me make it clear one more time that China and the U.S. are not engaged in any consultation or negotiation on tariffs." @cnbc.com www.cnbc.com/2025/04/28/t...
