When they’re no longer content to watch other people suffer as long as it doesn’t affect them. Solidarity isn’t words, it’s actions, and no one should have to beg to be treated like a human being.

When they’re ready to fully and publicly own up to the innumerable atrocities they’ve perpetrated against Black bodies since the moment they laid eyes on us. When they recognize that being racist is more than just using racial slurs. When they do the actual work to be anti-racist.

When they stop putting their tanned arms next to ours and saying “we’re almost the same color.” When they stop seeing our children as threats as early as 5 years old. When they recognize that if they truly believe we can bail them out of something, that means we always should have had the job.

When they stop inserting themselves into conversations that have nothing to do with them and aren’t directed toward them. When they stop centering themselves. When they stop asking stupid questions about our hair.

When they stop crying every time they hear something they don’t want to. When they stop using police and nurses uniforms as license to torture & kill us. When they stop taking credit for our work. When they stop speaking over us everywhere.

When they stop taking up the whole sidewalk when we’re walking towards each other. When they actually speak instead of looking away, looking down, or grimacing. When they pay attention & notice we aren’t wearing uniforms before asking us for help. Better yet, when they stop asking us for help.
