Weirdly, I hate it when Severance expands or explains its world. Part of its value is in the mystique of its myopia.

Nominating @ifycomedy.com for unofficial mayor of this year’s JoCo Cruise. Dude was everywhere I turned on that boat holding court and being generally great and generous.

Me before my first @jococruise.bsky.social: I’m worried I’m gonna hate this. Me after spending a week with the kindest, most open-hearted people I have ever met:

The @jococruise.bsky.social might have been worth it just to see @briamgilbert.bsky.social go full Neil Diamond on a karaoke cover of Mamma Mia.

The world is disintegrating around us, but I ate at the Mai Kai and saw @tmbg.bsky.social live, so at least I can say I had one perfect evening this year.

Ohhh, okay, so every trick Disney’s Polynesian and Trader Sam’s has they took from the Mai Kai. That checks out. That checks out.

I don’t know, I didn’t totally vibe with that episode of Severance. Love Dichen Lachman’s performance, but it feels like it got lost in the stylistic sauce a bit. The answers we’re getting feel more banal than the questions we’re asking.

The Monkey was basically a 1980s John Linnell song (compliment).

Thinking about Nona Mecklenberg today. One of the great TV friends on one of the great TV shows. And much like that show, Michelle Trachtenberg didn’t get enough credit for how good she was. RIP.

@fayettevilleflyer.com if I’m reading that site plan right, it looks like the Alamo Drafthouse in Fayetteville got scrapped - www.facebook.com/share/14qn31...

Saw two movies for the first time today: Paddington in Peru and Mulholland Drive. One is a nightmare I can’t seem to wake up from and the other is Mulholland Drive.

Wonka wasn’t worth Paddington in Peru. A wasted opportunity that isn’t entirely without charm, but feels like it’s wading neck-high through marmalade trying to find something resembling profundity.

Just saw Dinner in America and it’s been so damn long since a movie has blindsided me like this. Totally disarming. Extremely charming. Weirdly wholesome in its aggression in a delightfully anarchic way. Makes you feel like a fifty-story kaiju with laser eyes in love. It’s on Hulu. Drop everything.

It’s been a while (gestures to, you know, everything), but I’m back with a cozy slice of Too Many Tapes and my first vintage game review: Zen and the Art of Cozy Star Trek Games (Star Trek Voyager Elite Force - Virtual Voyager) youtu.be/R0AyFF31gQg

Murder mystery episode of Mythic Quest feeling like Community at its best so of course it was written and directed by Megan Ganz.

Really, REALLY enjoyed @joshruben.bsky.social’s Heart Eyes. Felt like They Came Together T-boned Scream at a busy intersection. Very nimble, delightful tonal whiplash, lots of lovingly inventive gore and fantastic performances. Worth seeing in theaters!

If the best shows make you say “I don’t know where they go from here,” than Severance is an all-time great.

We’re only two episodes into this season of Mythic Quest, and Rob McElhenney’s weird uncritical acceptance of the tech stuff that’s gonna ruin the lives of his fellow creatives is already rearing its ugly head again. It breaks my heart that he got mega-rich.
