Here is the full text of an open letter signed by 50+ film journalists and counting to @variety.com following their publication of an article blaming Rachel Zegler's pro-Palestine political activism for the box office results of a Disney film.

Watching Severance has been worth it for seeing my wife react to old man yaoi.

Please help my friend Mustafa. Everyone I’m in contact with in Gaza has been witnessing horrors almost daily. gofund.me/ddbbda73

This was such a wonderful convo and I'm very excited to folks to hear it!

$0 so far today and we are at $691/$1000. Boost please!

Wrote about how difficult it is to hit real resonance when you reach for merely being relatable and how it is always more interesting to play as a real person than a shadow.

Happening now: outside the IL State Board of Investments meeting in downtown Chicago, activists are rallying against ISBI Treasurer & Vice Chair Michael Frerichs. Frerichs is responsible for increasing the state's investment portfolio in war weapons manufacturers like Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

Still at 136/1000, it’s looking like we’ll be about $400 short for rent and we need more meds for Salem + food and other essentials for the both of us. Please continue to boost, even $1 means a lot to us! #MutualAid #MutualAidBoost #MutualAidRequest

In the second entry to my games criticism interview series, Grace and I talk being online, critical consensus, and writing long form. The art for this month’s column is Jules Bastien-Lepage’s Joan of Arc.

Happening now: USPS workers are rallying outside the Kedzie facility in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood as part of a nationwide day of action. Postal workers and supporters fear for the future of mail service as the Trump administration threatens cost cutting measures and privatization.

If LibGen didn’t exist meta would have scraped books somewhere else. The problem is the scraping, not services like libgen.

NYC freelancer comrades! Go hang out with @fspnwu.bsky.social organizer and member Kayti this afternoon and share your rates IRL!

My statement on being denied tenure at the Medill School of Journalism drive.google.com/file/d/1BBBI...

Every industry that relies on freelance/contract workers tell them constantly that they should be grateful for the scraps they get. I'm not content. And you shouldn't be either. You can organize. You can fight. You can win.

My new column is an interview series! Critics on criticism, the written word, and the games they’re writing about. First up is Nic Reuben on Eliot, cartography, and reviewing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Interviews are transcribed. ✅ This is not a podcast. ❌ You could be next. 🫵🏻 Web reprint is up:

i love how this industry is built on forcing you to freelance in order to get a staff gig but they also treat you like some inferior beast for daring to freelance with any semblance of dignity

all I want for my birthday is for you to read canonfire.net and tell me and everyone else what your favorite pieces are

$136/$1000! Please keep retweeting, this is very dire!

Wrote about Metro 2033’s simultaneously trite and evocative morality system and how its apocalyptic mood more than overcomes its limitations.

Boosting! Thanks to those that have helped already! Do we think we could hit an immediate goal of $100 for our necessities? If only 10 people gave $10, we would be comfortable until payday (which will all go towards rent)!

So many great games in this bundle with proceeds going to a great cause! Can't beat this deal! 🏳️‍⚧️

Here is a legal defense and support fund for Mahmoud Khalil. Their baby is coming soon. Please let's help. chuffed.org/project/just...

Some thoughts from your girl in the latest NYMag Critics Newsletter, in which several critics on staff were asked about the worth of negative reviews. “I’m a born lover. The best haters are lovers at heart who are just disappointed in the world.” ♥️

They have to review and respond to every unique comment by law, so every message you send below supports efforts to block this policy from further harming trans people.

All these cranky Illinoisans who wanted one of those weak ass new flags. Every state should have flags this stupid. Be proud of your shit, Illinois.

Hate to do this but this is unfortunately urgent as I need to cover some bills that I'm not able to pay. Anything helps www.paypal.com/paypalme/blu...

Since Bluesky decided to delete the account of a 20 year old kid who yesterday lost his mom to injuries from a bombing (and already lost his brother and father and is now responsible for his remaining siblings). I’ll share his link.

Morning boost, could still use about $100 for gas, food, meds, and a doctors visit. We’re going on nine days of being sick :( #MutualAid #MutualAidBoost #MutualAidRequest

A really bad critical habit is writing whole paragraphs about how Le Guin did something better.

Morning retweet; would also be helpful for an immediate $100 for gas to get to the doctors, more medicine and prescribed medication and as I'm still sick. It's also a week until Salem's birthday so consider giving what you can! Thank you so much.

Thank you to everyone for the help so far!! We’re still sick, running low on food, and trying to get funds together to get Salem’s sister out of her home. Please boost if you can ❤️ #MutualAid #MutualAidBoost #MutualAidRequest

Idk I also just. I adore being a woman. I have very few complicated feelings about it. I feel like I can understand and love myself in a total and complete way. I feel it is cruel to deny the possibility of that feeling to anyone else.

I think the really nasty flip side of “the only defining trait of masculinity is domination of women” is “the only defining trait of femininity is submission.” This kind of broad essentialism (even if bracketed by culture, and not biology) gets you to weird places.

Good morning! New Starboard Vineyard Tours! We read New Maps of Hell, an idiosyncratic look at Kingsley Amis's opinions on midcentury SF. Clearly an avid and thoughtful reader, and yet sometimes it seems like he has contempt for the genre? Odd guy! www.abnormalmapping.com/starboardvin...
