I’ll never get over how, in an era when women’s rights and status are being attacked and eroded in law and culture alike, we were incessantly told that it was boys and men whose suffering we needed to attend to.

Quoting Enoch Powell is never a coincidence. The Prime Minister knew what message he was sending — and who he was sending it to. Disgraceful.

71% of all online engagement in Ireland is far right bots from foreign adversaries attacking Irish people. It’d be great if the EU would sort this out. It’s gotten out of hand and doing genuine damage.

This whole thing feels so unnecessary. I’ve seen the party take a “fix your hearts or die” attitude about huge policy issues some as big and pressing as whether they will participate in governing *at all* and telling members and supporters to toe the line. Why they’re not doing this now is wild

37% of Labour voters surveyed had no issue with the language used by Starmer. The island of strangers thing really does resonate with me - I can’t relate to English politics and it’s xenophobic proclivities*at all* a country of strangers definitely. But am at the mercy of it and have to fund it 👌🏼

In the real world, however, Keir Starmer also used the words “incalculable damage”. And as importantly, none of the levers he pulled fix the “problem”:

I don’t get the point of attacks like this when this exists

So that’s 2 million plus people being knowingly starved, while being “displaced” from ruin to ruin under bombardment. 57 kids dead from malnutrition already.

My Dad died 15 months ago & spent last year of his life in a London nursing home. He was bed bound, blind, deaf, with dementia and various health issues. Almost all his carers & nurses were non UK born and they were all brilliant. They treated my mother like family (and still do to this day) 1/3

After centuries of gorging itself on imperial plunder, the UK is no longer going to be a ‘global charity’. Lol. More delusional nonsense from Starmer. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Genuinely didn’t understand why the rainbow fish had to give anyway his scales just to make other fish feel good. Silently thought about this for ages in Primary 1

'Incalculable damage' are such weasel words. You avoid spelling out what that 'damage' consists of - how & where exactly, & by whom - while affirming the full range of anti-immigrant sentiment & the inchoate sense of victimhood that fuels much of it.

Despite all the bright coloured Slop (which she does enjoy when she gets to see it - just being honest) the video my 3yr old asks to see over and over again is Ah-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’ to see the “people jump into the magazines” AI COULD NEVER

If you wouldn't accept "we are at risk of becoming an island of strangers" from Kemi Badenoch or Nigel Farage you probably shouldn't accept it from Keir Starmer. Don't pretzel yourself trying to explain why it's ok from the guy in the red tie.

The transition of GB News from “LOL look at these disastrous foaming wingnuts” to “the Labour Home Secretary is on it, furiously pandering to their audience of retired cranks” tells us quite a lot about how and why the country has got progressively more bleak and cruel every year of the century IMO.

The “care workers are low skilled & take advantage of visas”has angered me all night. 5yrs ago they were standing outside care homes waiting on the scrubs & masks we were made them, weeping telling us about their patients who were dying &they couldn’t do anything for them. This is one of them

Truly wild that so many people who tell themselves they’re decent will look at this and say “well if you’re upsetting the right and the left at the same time it’s a sign you’re just doing serious grown up politics”

Comments from Kier will mean someone who isn’t white will have to listen to someone who feels more confident about in being racist to them tomorrow. It has immediate impact - I can’t imagine speaking knowing that and using those words anyway

Looking forward to the big increase in salary for care workers that’s long overdue that Starmer surely is going to announce any day now, as follow up logic to his comments about cheap labour

this is not an exaggeration

The Council are hoping to build some social housing in my area which has been somewhat gentrified over the years. It's quite funny to see people who base their personalities on drinking craft beer and buying vinyl finding gentle ways to say they don't want to live near poor people on Facebook.

When I was a cleaner one job was for an elderly women who lived with her daughter, a Dr who worked long hours they were from India. Every day I’d clean and then she would plate up food that she had made me and beam at me as I ate it. She had no English, but we were great friends - not strangers

My father, an immigrant, came to this country with no academic qualifications, no money, and barely a word of English. People from his country were very unpopular in GB back then. He settled, built a business that employed many people over the years. Standing room only at his funeral. Bye, Labour.

In Ireland if you hide behind “just asking questions” about immigration and pretend like the government has placed a gag over you doing so- you get to become the face of a soft drink advertising campaign. It’s rewarded here as much as it is anywhere

Naked racism

I try not to be alarmist about Labour but if you're not white, the phrase 'island of strangers' tells an immediate story about how the government classifies you

1/2 Just-dismissed Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, has a PhD from U Chicago, is in numerous scholarly societies, has wide acclaim. She is also first African-American to lead LoC. The dismissal note did not say "Dear Dr. Hayden" or "Dear Madame Librarian" or even "Dear Carla."

Is politics just about being mean and stupid now or what? Who attacks CARE WORKERS?! It’s like hanging a sign around your neck that reads ‘Nasty Prick’.

This woman, is, without exaggeration - a scum bag. She couldn’t do a home care shift if there was a gun to her head. Giving people dignified life in their own homes is low paid work *not* unskilled work that my aunts and sister did with extreme skill, care and pride.

When a butterfly landed on my butterfly phobic little sisters shoulder while she was serving mass. She was doing the long fought for prestige position of being allowed to do the bell. When her eyes connected with the sight of the butterfly I think I exhaled all the air in my body

I can’t believe people genuinely love this program

Camogie Skorts nonsense has reached American TikTok. Glad that they’re receiving global ridicule

The effort GB media / politicians put in to pretending that the Good Friday Agreement doesn't exist is truly impressive. And just like #Brexit, when they finally have to face up to the fact that N. Ireland exists, they'll blame us, demand we fix their mess and start with the threats. #Echr #Ireland
