Why is it so hard for people to recognize fake images? Whether real things intentionally distorted by the photographer's choices, or past news photos inserted into obvious propaganda as something else, or computer-generated images of something that doesn't exist, why can't more people spot them?

There were always jays carousing in the camellias and oaks at my grandparents'. This week they've been partying again where I am. Nothing like sounds of home. (Now, where are the red-winged blackbirds??? They're usually back by now.)

I got emails from Fetterman and McCormick this evening. Both say thank you for contacting me. Blah blah blah blah. No clue which of scores of things they are responding to. Fetterman at least laid out some overview of how he thinks he is protecting people. I disagree, but he at least has content.

In 1972, Shirley Chisholm made history as the first black woman to run for a major party's presidential nomination. But the camera told a different story. @azzacohen.bsky.social unpacks how visual framing still shapes who we see as a leader.

"[T]he dilemma of contemporary American literature: dissenting against Trump and what he represents but not recognizing that Trump’s imperialism is a more naked version of liberal imperialism is a limited kind of dissent."

Wow. McCormick has gotten so many constituent comments about funding cuts he's made a 2:47 min video to defend himself. I've not watched it yet; if it's like his email responses it will be filled with misinformation and ignorance, and will not respond to the actual issues. I'll watch later.

From A4TE The Trump administration is attacking transgender healthcare access. A new rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) would ban gender-affirming care as an Essential Health Benefit under the ACA, strip DACA recipients of coverage, and create new barriers to ACA enrollment

This truly is a WTF development.

When a billionaire lyke Musk doth speake of "savinge civilization" he doth not meane savinge the beautye and complexitye of diverse cultures, languages, literatures, and philosophyes. For hym "civilization" ys a delivery mechanism for hair implantes, private jets, and wagyu beef.

Today is both the 80th anniversary of the execution of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the 160th anniversary of Lee's surrender to Grant. gratialeger.substack.com/p/a-double-a...

I'm not seeing discussion of one the things that most angers me about sending alleged migrants to El Salvador: human trafficking. We sent these men there to basically be worked to death. This is a crazy renewal of slave trading, only we the traders are paying the plantation to take our slaves.

I just did this. I've previously contacted my congresswoman, and my senators on this issue, but it's important to keep telling them why this is a bad bill that targets a non-existent problem.

Citing incidents of Israeli forces firing on and killing Palestinian medics and beating detainees, US Senator Peter Welch has urged the US government to apply what is known as the 'Leahy Law' to end offensive weapons sales to Israel. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/lc3cdo

Being a US citizen is NOT the protection most of my friends believe it is.

Somewhere on social media this morning I read a paragraph that talked about a plutonic relationship. I knew it meant platonic, but ever since, small planets and orange, long-eared cartoon dogs have been circling in my mind. Gotta be some kind of political message, no?

Also just called my Republican senator to tell him that I am Christian, and I believe it is just wrong to cut Medicaid, SNAP, funds for Meals on Wheels, to food banks to muck up Social Security and Medicare. It is morally wrong. Encouraged him to reflect on moral choices he is making.

I hear my congresswoman showed up & spoke at the Hands Off demonstration in my city. (I went to a satellite event in a suburb.) I emailed her a thank you for this act of leadership. I strongly believe she & colleagues need to do more, but they need our support when they do step up.

Hands Off our democracy. Doylestown, PA All 4 corners of the town’s biggest intersection, plus island.
