RFK Jr. thinks that a clinical trial should be done for the entire childhood vaccine schedule. Here’s why that will never happen. 1. You can’t do a randomized trial of something that we already know is safe and effective. There would have to be a placebo group that didn’t get vaxxed. Unethical.

If you chair meetings, especially long ones, consider letting people know it’s ok for them to fidget/ stim or move. This has happened to me once (with a neurodivergent speaker/ largely neurodivergent audience) and it was genuinely transformative. #adhd #autism

This whole "parents working from home are to blame for poor attendance" attitude is such a lazy take to avoid the bigger elephants in the room of the SEND and mental health crisis, and the systemic health inequalities that lead to children missing more school. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Watching with some alarm as this RFK Jr chap is put in charge of healthcare in the US, and effectively describes our lovely autistic people as something 'unhealthy' and an 'epidemic'. When you think of loved fellow human beings that way, there's something very amiss, isn't there.

We're looking for autistic parents to take part in a study on burnout: durhamuniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_... Please take part/share if you have capacity.

Louder for the dangerously unhinged anti-vaxxers at the back: AUTISM IS NOT AN ILLNESS

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

Just seen this screenshot shared by @simonpegg.bsky.social. This is quite the hot take - as if Musk is every normal person rocking up to work with their young child in tow and their boss going "This is fine" and everyone gets on with their day. He is not the poster boy for working parents Liz!

Absolutely horrible he is using his toddler as a prop to make him seem more human and less megalomaniac (by which I mean his little boy not the giant man-baby sitting next to him).

Important new evidence published today: large-scale DofE trial (N=12,166) found that two universal MH awareness interventions, in secondary schools, led to an *increase* in emotional symptoms at long term (9-12 month) follow up tinyurl.com/4ffday8y Thread below /1

Parents of restrictive eaters nodding along sagely saying fair enough [On a separate note, would be interested to know what the ACTUAL story is here]

I think it’s really important that flexible working (which isn’t the same as wfh) doesn’t get lost in this. Wfh is great for some people or some times for many reasons - including managing health, disability, cost & lost time in commutes. And… 1/ hsj.cdn.wilmingtonplc.com/2025/02/07/n...

molecularautism.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.... Aha, I like this. A team working with autistic people to make an autism screening tool that actually works for autistic people.

🚨 New! The latest wave of evidence for the SEND Inquiry has ideas from schools, parents and professionals. A short highlights 🧵 . Any that appeal to you (or not)?

Trump taking a break from advocating for ethnic cleansing by casually spreading harmful autism misinformation to get his wildly dangerous mate a job stopping children from getting vaccines 👌 www.axios.com/2025/02/04/t...

I don't have a lot of time for Wes Streeting but this headline is an unfair reflection of what he was trying to say. He needs to acknowledge that inequalities based on race are inherently different to those based on deprivation though, but it shouldn't be either/or - we need to address it all.

This is essentially a ban on social sciences research unless you are studying how awesome white privileged men are.

"Please don't brag about having helicopters during a national tragedy" Absolute top tier work 👏

This is the correct take

Two images that historians will refer back to in horror On the left, the FBI headquarters yesterday On the right, two hours after the Philadelphia plane crash and having failed to even acknowledge it, Donald Trump is on Truth Social pushing his own Crypto Coin The death knell of civil America

Joe Biden would have been lambasted from certain quarters for rambling on like this.

This chart right here from @jrf-uk.bsky.social new UK Poverty report shows why all the outrage about pensioners' winter fuel payments is so disproportionate - children are consistently most affected by poverty and none of those shouting about pensioners have ever shown similar concern for CYP.

Meanwhile in other "We Just Need To Be More Positive About How Brilliant The UK Is" economic growth news

Today’s about Chancellor’s plans for growth. But new @jrf-uk.bsky.social research confirms growth won’t solve appalling levels of hunger & hardship @trusselluk.bsky.social sees everyday across UK. We need urgent action - Universal Credit covering cost of life’s essentials & lifting 2 child limit.

4.3 million children are in poverty UK govt won’t see progress on child poverty by 2029 even with high economic growth 📢 Our analysis shows under our central scenario only Scotland will see child poverty rates fall by 2029 in part due to social security policies 1/5

Rachel Reeves announces support for a third runway at Heathrow on the day that @jrf-uk.bsky.social launch their new UK Poverty report. Sure families who can't afford to feed their kids will be glad that more people can get on a plane. Economic growth will not magically lift people out of poverty.

Lots of these articles bemoaning young people not wanting to call anyone, as if the way people communicate hasn't constantly evolved over centuries anyway (as an elder millennial who hates speaking on the phone, despite the fact that we once only had landlines to contact friends - after 6pm obvs).

Don't know why I've never really noticed but was just in traffic behind a Tesla and it was suddenly so obvious the logo looks like an IUD. This is what happens when women presumably aren't involved in design choices. #DiversityMatters Image ref: www.hejkarlie.ch/inspiration/...

I had received an email about my Microsoft Office subscription changing price but hadn't twigged it was so they could foist their AI onto us - hugely problematic for users for whom use of AI would be detrimental or prohibited for their work such as academics and students. I've amended my sub now!

The frightening theme emerging from all this (unsurprisingly, to be fair) is the sheer number of vulnerable young people and families who evidently need intervention and support but fall between the cracks of all available services because they don't meet restrictive criteria for help.
