Audio books have a place, but I'm not convinced it is in the classroom. Reading in a lesson is about more than just reading aloud no matter how eloquently it is done. It should be interactive, exploratory, expansive, & include clarification & elaboration. 1/n www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Handwriting is not afforded the same consideration as reading, but it is an important piece of foundational knowledge and skill.

Really helpful post from @greeborunner.bsky.social in @tesmagazine.bsky.social on supporting handwriting in secondary schools. An often overlooked area. www.tes.com/magazine/tea...

A new post reflecting on when to get out of the way

*Love* this from @greeborunner.bsky.social:

Love this. “When they say something works in their classroom I need to stop and listen to hear why. When they say something doesn’t, I need to do likewise. “

Very encouraging from @beckyfrancis.bsky.social. Agree with this: "But there also remain significant gaps and points of under-attainment. In practice, ‘high standards’ currently too often means ‘high standards for some’."

Here’s the thing: women outperform men academically; on most desireable leadership traits women tend to outperform men; women are less likely to display problematic work traits; women score higher on measures of leadership effectiveness. 1/2

We have all been repeatedly told the lie of the empty road and yet our heart refuses it. We know our hodology is haunted. We know we cross a ghost-soaked landscape. We know we o not travel alone. – Dr. M. Benn #Ghosts

Some simple but good advice for teachers here. In particular, I've found thinking about the order in which I give instructions has made a big difference this half term.

Exclusive: @naht.org.uk has defended producing a template response to the Ofsted consultation for its members, saying the consultation shows a 'complete disregard' for the workload of school leaders

Anyone who thinks they have certainty over future Ofsted processes/outcomes is living on a different planet to me. Don't waste your time or money on consultancy cos using proposed framework will be more of a lottery than before. If you want the evidence, then look at the toolkit and see for yourself
