"What I find callous and completely unjustified..." @adrianramsay.bsky.social discusses the Government's cruel decision to cut aid and welfare spending on BBC Question Time.

Two-party politics is over. Which way do you want to turn next? youtu.be/cPn3U96YBHE?...

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

Yes, the UK government SHOULD abandon its Carbon Capture and Storage scheme, which a. would cause a net *increase* in emissions b. is unlikely to work c. uses tens of billions that'd be much better spent on genuinely green projects. Let's hope it has seen sense. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

🌙 Ramadan Mubarak to all my Muslim friends, colleagues & constituents✨ I look forward to breaking bread with many of you at Bristol's Grand Iftar. It's a huge cross-community celebration that Bristol is rightly proud of, this year hosted by the Cathedral (bristol-cathedral.co.uk/event/grand-...)

📈 Today rail fares rise by 4.6%. ✈️ Rail trips are on average twice as expensive as domestic flights. 🚆 We could tax air travel fairly, raising billions to invest in our railways and bring down fares, making the green option the easiest and cheapest option.

Councillors! Does your council procurement award points for using EV cars and vans? Oxfordshire does and it’s helping drive the shift to electric. Govt investing more in EV vans, quite rightly. www.gov.uk/government/n...

We should tax the rich, not cut foreign aid. Repost of you agree.

Out in the rain and hail today talking on doorsteps and leafleting around #Buntingford with this lovely bunch of local Green cllrs, volunteers and campaigners💚. Incredibly positive conversations! Thanks all - and especially our County Council candidate Georgina Schwan! 💚

I am pleased to see Rupert Lowe has installed solar panels on his farm. It’s a shame Reform Party does not want ordinary people to benefit from cheap, clean, renewable energy. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

"if you manage solar energy production in a certain way, not only are you providing clean energy but benefiting biodiversity" An extremely useful study with very unsurprising findings. Solar farms can improve biodiversity (just don't build new ones on nature protected sites). Let's celebrate that.

"It’s time this government showed a bit of backbone and told the truth – that migration is good for this country." @carladenyer.bsky.social responds to Labour's shocking decision to broadcast footage of people being detained and deported.

"The YouGov poll found that those who align themselves to Labour are still overwhelmingly in favour of a PR system." Marc Ainge in @eastangliabylines.co.uk argues that Keir Starmer should listen to his own voters and bring in electoral reform. We agree! 💯

If you voted Labour is this what you voted for? Rather than make the positive case for why this country absolutely benefits from migration - let alone the moral case - Labour have turned into Reform. Don't just get angry - get active. Join @greenparty.org.uk

In light of leaks Labour could be planning the biggest disability benefit cuts in a decade, I ask: how is this different from life under the Tories?  My @theguardian.com col. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Over 5 million people have had their elections cancelled in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Thurrock, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Green Party is urging the government to protect democracy and allow these long-planned elections to take place.

I asked the Deputy Prime Minister if she would impose huge, remote unitary County Councils if that is against the wishes of local residents & how she can justify having County Councillors last elected in 2021, leading negotiations on the biggest shake-up of local government in the last half-century.

#democracy - it would be a good idea. And it is being directly denied to the people of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Thurrock, Surrey, East & West Sussex , Hampshire and Isle of Wight

Is there anything Donald Trump can do that Keir Starmer and David Lammy would criticise? We're not talking here of a slip up or a huge error - we're talking about the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. Appalling that it's been nearly 24 hours of silence.

When will Govt learn you can’t out-Reform Reform - you end up simply legitimising their toxic narrative. To see off populists, Labour needs to invest in public services & local communities, making a real difference to people’s lives - levy a wealth tax & use it to improve people’s lives *now*

Trump's threats of ethnic cleansing in Gaza are abhorrent and the UK government must stand firmly against them

Labour is a husk of a party. Listen to this. 👇🏼

Don't let people forget.

“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.” #Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

#PublicHealth - the all too often forgotten damage from airport expansion. Policy of @TheGreenParty - to close London City airport. It is in an entirely inappropriate place www.telegraph.co.uk/business/202...

The idea that we have to choose between economic prosperity and safeguarding our children’s future is absolute nonsense - Reeves is chasing headlines with her Heathrow announcement but it will trash her Govt’s own emissions targets and won’t do anything to make people’s lives better

Tomorrow morning Parliament will debate Proportional Representation. More than 11,600 of you have emailed your MPs asking them to attend and show their support. We reached every single MP in Great Britain. Let's make sure the case for equal votes gets heard in Westminster 💪

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people. Sound efficient? HT @ellenmacarthurfdn.bsky.social

When UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, we should be doing everything we can to protect it - not give developers a free pass to concrete over land regardless of what's there Another U-turn on Labour's promise to protect the environment

The Government are planning to approve expansions in a desperate attempt to boost 'economic growth'. Four UK airport expansions including Heathrow would cancel out the carbon savings of Labour's clean energy plans in just five years. The Government must rethink.

I cannot understand why Labour would rather go for growth through trashing the environment with approving extra runways when forging a closer relationship with the EU has so many economic advantages and more. It isn't logical!

New analysis: If four UK airport expansions including Heathrow are allowed to go ahead, they will cancel out the carbon savings of this government’s clean power plan IN JUST FIVE YEARS. This government must cancel these planned expansions. neweconomics.org/2025/01/airp...

Not just great news, but some really good insights in the comments!

Great to see that the reduction in insurance premiums from 20mph that was first identified by #20splenty and #esure is now being endorsed by others in insurance. See this article published today. Towns keeping collision-prone 30mph limits are set to become insurance premium and casualty hotspots.

Ministers resist calls to block huge Musk donations to Farage. Voters want political donations from foreign billionaires stopped. So does the Electoral Commission. But Labour recently took £4m from a Cayman-based hedge fund with shares in oil and arms. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.
