I helped draft a white paper which addresses this question: newgencontraception.org/contraceptio..., and which then turned into this paper: www.contraceptionjournal.org/article/S001... Some contraceptive innovation is happening, but investment has been far too scarce. cc: @marthagill.bsky.social

Law Prof Folks: If your school has an incentive policy for high-impact publications, is it per paper or limited to one per year? Thank you!!

"Amid legal battles and online attacks from politicians and anti-abortion activists, Carpenter’s patients and colleagues are speaking out in her defense, lauding her courage as a women’s rights champion and her decades of work advancing healthcare access globally." www.cnn.com/2025/02/23/u...

"The cultural battle over contraception is largely focused on whether people should abandon existing methods, or whether that is irresponsible advice. But there’s another question we should be asking. . . . Why aren’t contraceptives getting better?" www.theguardian.com/society/comm...

Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis. The rate of sepsis shot up more than 50% for women hospitalized when they lost their pregnancies in the second trimester.

Humbled that our project, The Life of the Mother, has been recognized with a George Polk award. It was truly inspiring to watch this team of women persevere through the most difficult reporting to tell the story of how abortion bans are costing lives. www.propublica.org/atpropublica...

Yesterday, JAMA published a piece showing that abortion bans have led to a 5.6% increase in infant mortality bc (1) bans bans force people to birth babies with severe fetal anomalies that do not survive & (2) bans affect high-risk patients the most. Short thread: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

can't emphasize enough how much this brave doctor deserves your support www.reuters.com/legal/texas-...

Good piece if you want to get caught up on the news related to abortion shield laws this week. A lot happened the past few days! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/h...

As she was required to do under NY law. She had no discretion.

Pitt Law School professor and Michigan Law alum @greerdonley.bsky.social ’s forthcoming paper in Michigan Law Review is available here: https://buff.ly/418J1Bl. It’s a timely look at the narrative around abortions and its policy implications in the wake of the Dobbs decision. #WomeninLaw

On this day in 1916: An activist for women’s rights and social justice, Emma Goldman was arrested in New York for spreading information about birth control. She was charged with a violation of the Comstock Act, passed in 1873, which barred sending or bringing “obscene” material across state lines.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Very excited that the new paper from me and @greerdonley.bsky.social will be published by the Michigan Law Review. Download a draft here if you're interested. We're always looking for feedback! papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

Also, I've been working on this joke for a decade. It goes something like: "I finally note-ed onto law review!" 🤣 In all seriousness, as an MLaw alum, it's extra special to publish in MLR. Go Blue!

Thrilled to announced that @dsc250.bsky.social & my latest, "From Medical Exceptions to Reproductive Freedom" was just accepted by Michigan Law Review!! papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.... Thread on the paper below:

You get amazing feedback and get to hang out with awesome peers. Such as my stellar cohort mates of @greerdonley.bsky.social, @jennoliva.bsky.social, and Gabe Scheffler.

It was such a pleasure to host @maybell.bsky.social and hear about her new work! I’m a big fan of her recent work and especially her auto-ethnographic method of scholarship!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A judge says Missouri’s abortion ban isn't enforceable under new amendment, ensuring legal abortions in the state.
