Yeah, Vancouver is a socially cold city… and I fucking love it that way.

This is one of many moments where Sarah Kirby-Yung resentfully thinks about how she could’ve been mayor.

The year is 2027. Vancouver and Toronto city councils are debating which half baked Canadian robotaxi company to maybe allow in 2029. Meanwhile robotaxis have grown to 40% market share across the US and the Uber driver riots have provided an easy means for ICE to pad deportation quotas.

The subtext of this is the enduring danger of epistemic elites being Too Online, which is the actual thing breaking their brains. You can't be a rich sapient jar of mayonnaise and get obsessed with trans girls in sports without that.

Good news to all loyal members of the People’s Communist Coop of Costco (PCCC), soon the glorious People’s Food Court Downtown Location will be again usable because the freeloading peasant non-members will be banished. Our God given right to a hotdog without undue wait is restored!

In X Pro, formerly Tweetdeck, all the UI links where a post timestamp links back to the original post still have twitter.com as the URL.

I thought it was weirdly fascinating to hear the King read a land acknowledgement during the throne speech. But then shortly later you realize he’s going to read select bits in French too. 😅

I have never wavered in my belief that bringing a bike on a bus or train, outside of a parts failure, is Doing Urban Transport Wrong.

Saw blue Vancouver 2010 Olympic volunteer jackets two days in a row and I’m taking that as a glitch in the matrix.

Braid Station in New West, the butt of local transit jokes for having nothing around it, has a completed tower within a block before Commercial-Broadway does.

Let’s go @pwaldkirch.bsky.social ! Time for the Megatowers Polka at the 1780 East Broadway rezoning hearing 🎶 #vancouver

I am so fucking hyped to hear Grandview nimby tears tonight. So many fucking years of predatory delay. (Commercial-Broadway Safeway redev public hearing)

"You guys are all misinterpreting Gregor Robertson's words! Vision had good policy, but there were external factors!" "Shut up Greg that's whole lot of cope, enjoy your public housing waitlist" [cries in corner]

The thing about "The Safeway tower doesn't respect the Grandview-Woodland Community Plan" is that the plan was a big waste of time that mostly just preserves the status quo. For example, the "residential character areas" to make sure streets with duplexes near the SkyTrain don't change:

Kim Jong Il might have been on to something with the state mandated haircuts.

Congrats to Verstappen and Kelly Piquet in creating the Formula 1 Kwisatz Haderach.

Teen Burgers are $5 and the frakkin KING is coming to give the throne speech, Canada is so back etc, long live the Natural Governing Party of Canada.

My least Vancouver leftist opinion is that yes we should welcome and exploit the cruise tourists.

That is correct

No you can’t bring your dog on the Seabus. There is no floatation device for them. Ottawa’s rules.

Enjoying Spring 2025

Noticing that the Wikipedia image for my cat's breed is a low res image -> check and see that the image is 19 years old -> contemplate how to get my cat as the eternal wiki example for his breed 🤔

With CBC now having called all ridings it's time for the land-vs-people-vote animation.

Shout out to Ronald S. Billingsley Jr who brought an open bottle of liquor to an Edmonton Centre candidate forum and is currently 9th (out of 10)

Celebrating the end of the Trudeau era by buying a legal cannabis product.

The next leader of the NDP should be an LLM chatbot trained on the life’s work of Tommy Douglas, using an animatronic in the style of Kier in Severance.

[to the cadence of “Gen Z boss and a mini”] ANGLO PM FROM WEST EDMONTON! ANGLO PM FROM WEST EDMONTON!

For the record I voted Liberal for the first time in Vancouver East because I’m tired of being in an unearned safe seat. I want a strong NDP but clearly they need to be wiped off the board and purge the head office. Jenny Kwan won’t lose but I hope nimby Don Davies does.

Some context missing from the article, the Squamish Nation would be buying back land that was originally associated with the historic Senakw village.

Every neighbourhood can be a heritage neighbourhood if you don't build housing for long enough.
