They are definitely not gonna announce something like that.

Hat tip to @marcmachado.bsky.social for his outstanding column on Troy's tactics that includes visual clips.
A perfect companion piece to the podcast.

MLSNP is mostly professional. Since it's the last stop before the 1st team, almost all the clubs will have Academy kids playing in games pre-contract as sort of a final evaluation.

I hear you but that doesn't seem to align with what either club wants.
Bobcats take a lot of pride in being MD's only pro team. They lose that if they become DC's minor league team.

They gotta find a league to play in first.

Right.
Last update I got (mid January) was that they are still looking at a year from now.

Agreed.
Not as hyped as Cavan but an HG the fans will love watching play.

Doesn't have the hype of Cavan Sullivan because he's 3 years old (just turned 18) and missed most of 2023 with two serious ankle injuries.
The kid is a legit baller though.

I hear ya but what is DC giving up to get that 25k?
In essence, nothing.
comment in response to
post
I don't follow.
this is basically just 25k found money for DC.

Factoring everything else in, it looks like they want the 2/4 deal.
We'll see though.

Damn.
This deal makes not a lick of sense.
Can't wait til the oral history.

All fair.
My point in bringing it up is that Troy/Ally aren't getting Jason to sign off on EVERYTHING.
Do they have a lot of leeway? Yes.
Do they have a rubber stamp? No.
comment in response to

Agreed and I hope Ted balls out for Colorado.
But, the last two seasons, he's been the one whose injuries have opened up minutes for other players.

They couldn't make the case to ownership to buy out Klich.

We know Stroud will run his socks off.

So, we are probably still a year away from seeing a fully formed vision/version of Troy/Ally's D.C. United.
What will keep me invested is:
1. continued buy in from the players
2. continued investment from ownership
3. continued growth of Troy as a coach
Check those boxes and I'll be patient.

What do I think happens over the summer?
One of two scenarios:
-DCU buys out a half year of Klich and snags a DP
-DCU adds at least one U22 signing
OR
-DCU adds a U22 signing
Which would mean they wait til the winter to go all in on a DP signing.
No idea the metric for choosing which scenario

Here are some "ifs":
If Pirani takes another step forward.
If Enow is fully settled after a half season in MLS.
If Leal can stay healthy.
If they scouted Peglow correctly.
If Rowles settles the defense. (This is most important)
If one of the Servania/Rida/ Karamoko dice roll hits.

I'm confident about:
Schnegg being a quality LB.
Kijima having a season like Stroud did last year.
Joon being a quality GK.
Peltola being a quality soccer player.
Barajas is a young player who has tasted success in the league.
Antley, Murrell, MacNaughton, Barraza/Farr are quality backups

We know Benteke is awesome.
We know Herrera is awesome.
We know Bartlett is solid.
We know Stroud will run his socks off.

Right there with you.
And I kinda think they will.

Ummmm, this is D.C. United.
You should ALWAYS have doubts.
comment in response to

Oh I completely agree.
I love that there's an actual vision to building a club now.
What I'm saying is, patience is a HARD thing when you've been burned in the past.
Personally, keep adding and I'll stay invested.

Stretch that timeline to next offseason and I agree with you.

Like for like, it's unrelated.
Just feels like the Rapids gave DCU a number that they liked so they took it.
Now, replacing a 23yo U22 player who DC has a few comp players with an 18yo at a position the club could use some depth...not the worst swap ever.

If the scenario is, get your player profiles in place, lay concrete on that foundation, and infuse a relentless style of play. THEN, add high end pieces.
Well, that'd be swell.
Without part two, it's just treading water.
