I'm very excited to announce we have a special guest! Next week Dr. Shannon Grimes, Professor of Religion at Meredith College, will be joining us live to discuss Zosimos of Panopolis and the history of Alchemy in Roman Egypt. Join us Friday June 13th at 10am Pacific to join in the fun

Amazing historical ignorance from MAGA's chief court philosopher, going with the - apocryphal! - Louis XIV quote and thinking, "yeah, the *Bourbon monarchs* are a good example of how a ruler would never ruin their own country out of incompetence or vain ambition."

Today's aesthetic: when a cat decides it's going to make a very difficult or precise jump, spends several minutes examining the problem from all angles and warming up its muscles and minutely adjusting the positions of its paws and such, then proceeds to totally eat shit.

Every time somebody tries to justify AI because disabled people *need* AI to write or create art, their contempt for the disabled is glaring.

I think there's a disconnect between LLM proponents when it comes to code and the rest of us. They see code as a purely mechanical thing, ripe for automation. To them claims of artistry and craft are something to roll your eyes at, arrogance from senior engineers who think too highly of themselves

it’s insane that having empathy is becoming a political liability for so many americans

Dungeon concept: OSHA safety hazards

"How much poison are you willing to eat for the success of the free market and global trade? Please name your preferred poisons."

ME: yeah could i get the impossible burger with cheese. THE VIZIER WHO'S BEEN ADVISING ME: ahh, an excellent choice sire. an imitation of the genuine article. there are some "friends" of yours to whom it bears a passing similarity ME: you want anything VIZIER: [chuckles] what i want is of no import

Weird gaming take of the day: more city-builders should offer reasons to build 'bad' - low education, run down, industrial, etc. - cities as well as the standard 'wealthy shining high-income, high education, public-transit utopia' city. Sooty industrial cities exist in the real world for reasons.

I don't need any more vibes based analysis of fascism thank you

Vibe coders be like: it's ok the linter will save me! The linter?? You're putting your life in the hands of the *fucking linter*?! The fuck's wrong with you

I love to push a button and receive a pellet. A delicious treat for me? Might as well push it again. If it gives me a small electric shock once in a while, well, that's just the cost of doing business

(Gasaraki) thinking about the artificial muscles in Gasaraki.... even without actual meat you can do so many cool things with like, synthetic things in a mecha that are just really fun and visceral. Gasaraki has a lot of it that I really like...

The Flanderization of ghibli in the public mind is just so insane to me. Acting like it’s entirely wholesome and cutesy but is really overtly anti capitalist, depict the horrors of war and environmental decline, and have TONS of body horror and depictions of death and disease. it legit annoys me

I've been trying to crack this idea for quite some time. I'm finally getting there. Writing down what I want the then-non-existent system to *do* helped a lot, and allowed me to work backwards. Hard at work on the first version!

I wonder how much of this country’s fucked up culture would be fixed if men were taught how to handle having a fantasy versus reality

Arriving at my new wizard tower only to discover that when the real estate listing said "great and terrible", it meant not "impressive and horrifying", but "large and shitty".

English Wikipedia officially reached 7 million articles!!! The person who published article number 7,000,000 has become a minor celebrity among Wikipedia editors

So, you may wonder: How fast can you trans yourself in Traveler: The Experience? ...one dot! It takes one dot in the JOYUS STIGMATA, the self transformation power. This costs one supernatural injury and has a permanent duration and lets you transform yourself within human norms.

also, if anyone needs a pride icon this month, here's some freebies

Okay, IRL Casey says happy pride

(TW: Gore) Happy Pride Month!

People LOVE evoking a generic ‘disabled person’ to shut down transit projects. We’re much less likely to drive and benefit greatly from transit-friendly urban planning. Instead of pushing car dependence we should be asking how we can lower barriers to transit use.

yoooo did anyone see the new balatro update this month

In my last session I had the typical hooded smoking tavern questgiver ask the party to pretend to be hooded smoking tavern questgivers, to lure an evil adventuring party into a trap. So my players are now convincing me, the GM, to go on a quest, while desperately trying to get their story straight.

80s comedy isn't without problems, but it did kinda go off with the bit where the protagonist is being chased by like a hundred cops, does some cartoon bullshit that makes all the cop cars crash, and we never see the aftermath because whether the cops died isn't relevant to their personal journey.

Whatever it is, this is my favourite sport.

im addicted to sliding the “tip gofundme” slider down to 0%

Few stories better capture modern policing than this one about a conspiracy of private corporate interests paying off-duty state troopers as part of a "shadow force" to cleanse downtown Nashville of homeless people using metal chains, cages, and violence.

happy pride month!!

happy gay month everyone! and remember:

"Why did the enforced anonymity of imageboard culture ever seem like a good idea?" is a question that reads differently when one's formative experience of social media was web forums circa 2000 where every post included a signature that was ten times as long as its actual content, is all I'm saying.

lot of things that frustrate me about adhd but one of the seemingly minor ones that has a way outstated impact on my energy and productivity is "oh fuck i forgot to dust for entirely too long again"
