Warehouse 13 was everything to me

⛔ NIH ended ALL of my grants mid-project, given LGBTQ health focus 🏳️‍🌈 ⚖️ So what am I doing? Suing RFK, Jr. As one team member shared in this story👇: "The threats to our work don’t just make me fear for my career — they make me fear for my safety.“ #SaveDemocracy #SupportScience #PublicHealth

So how do acknowledgements work now? “This work was supported by US NSF grant #, until they belatedly discovered the work no longer effectuated NSF’s goals and demanded that everyone involved stop getting pay and other support.” Or is their past support a shameful secret for them they’d rather hide?

This whole thread really explains why I've enjoyed Nick Harkaway's books so much, very genre transcending for me, and some of those moments reading his work had a real impact on the way I think about MY work as a psychologist studying workplaces & identities & threat & change

Love opening a chapter of my book, looking at a paragraph, trying to shove all of human psychology into it, closing the chapter and screaming

So very glad to hear this, but I want to emphasize that this does not undo the harm that has been done in fear, stress, monetary costs, lost opportunities, breaks in research, damage to reputations, fractured networks.

Direwolves and The Men We Don't Speak Of

Me, sensible: I must get tasks done The Darkness Inside of Me: NO. YOU MUST READ THIS OBSCURE 1971 PAPER ABOUT PROGRAMMER APTITUDE THAT HAS PHRASES LIKE "TESTWISENESS" IN IT Me: The tasks!! Are what! Pay the bills! TDIoM: THIS WILL BE VERY USEFUL I GUARANTEE IT. YOU'LL SEE IT WILL COME IN HANDY

Interviewing people for my book and I have to say that software devs are way more willing to talk to me than psychological scientists 😅 Software folks caring about my work have changed my life and the life of my family. I will never forget it.

Science Homecoming is in the news today, talking about our mission and results 🧪🏠 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

New, from @pamherd.bsky.social & I: An emerging conventional wisdom is that universities should abandon federal dollars since it gives Trump a means to strong-arm them. But breaking the federal-university research partnership would have high societal costs. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/are-univer...

President Donald Trump’s administration appears to be killing much, if not all, of a historic initiative that was the first, and is still the largest, National Institutes of Health effort centered on the health needs of women. scim.ag/4jLeLTJ

@katrinamillerphd.bsky.social & I took a look at over 400 active National Science Foundation grants that got killed in the past few days. Here's our story (gift link) nyti.ms/4jp4aOx

What research study do you wish I'd do? 😌

I'm disappointed to share that my NSF career grant on anti-Asian dehumanization was terminated. This affects ongoing project activities, which have shown great progress so far, and support for my research team and more. I'm sad to share that the hiring of the postdoc role is currently on pause.

Collecting research data is one of the best feelings in the world

People talking about sewing their own clothes to deal with supply chain issues...sweet innocents...I love sewing clothes and would encourage anyone to do it but do you think there is a zipper factory in town or something...

Glad to see all this discussion of community education. Just a reminder that I’ve made all of my course material — 40 classes, from methods to maps, knowledge infrastructures to local media, digital ethnography to digital urbanism — freely available for 20+ years :)

Through the lens of my life in Technical Spaces, this entire article smacks of truth. Give it a read if you're invested in making Tech less dehumanizing.

I've been making a series of videos called "What the FUNDING" that highlight all the incredible science that federal funding supports. If DOGE just fcked up your NSF grant and you wanna collaborate on a video, lmk? I'm @science_irl on insta & TT #scicomm 🧪 #nsf

My NSF CS for All grant was just terminated (www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/...). Nationwide, we were: • Improving the quantity + quality of K-12 CS teachers • Ensuring the sustainability of K-12 CS teacher prep programs • Ensuring all youth in the U.S. have access to great CS teachers

I’m so angry & heart broken. My NSF CAREER grant was stolen today; dream project supporting science teachers/students as climate justice action researchers, tackling urban heat. Truly transformative, the culmination of my life’s work, we won’t stop, not in this climate crisis. Gonna fight like hell!

if you're looking for a thing to read today might i suggest my most recent blog post? i think it's a pretty compelling analysis www.winstonhearn.com/wrote/2025/a...
