I'm just going to say it: No Kings feels like a turning point, both for the American left in general and even on Bluesky. It was the platonic ideal of moderate liberal non-violent protest, and the energy just feels *so different* all of a sudden. It's like everybody grew up and locked in.

the John Wick universe is what you get if someone explained everything about Vampire: the Masquerade except that the characters are vampires

It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.

I love Dark Souls but I think it gave gamers brain damage because now everyone thinks the gold standard for dark fantasy RPG combat is rolling around like Sonic the Hedgehog while a guy with a big hammer chases you Looney Tunes style.

P.S. It appears yesterday's villainy actually emanated from the LA Sheriff's Department, which very much tracks with where the dirtbag law-enforcement officers have apparently begun to collect en masse after years of corruption crackdowns inside the LAPD.

@proptermalone.bsky.social @beijingpalmer.bsky.social, from one of my conservative Twitter mutuals who's active-duty military. The "malicious compliance" theory is looking especially vital this morning.

My favorite #Wisconsin #NoKings sign/flag from today. #wipolitics

And yet it worked. A majority might have disapproved of the freedom riders at some point, but nobody doubts that the treatment of Rosa Parks persuaded a critical mass of people of the barbarity of the laws. You build power by appealing to empathy, not by Rosa Parks throwing a brick at a cop.

ok maybe the American flag scolds had a point, this photo goes hard

This is it. This is all it is. Having organizers brave and wise enough to tell people like this to STFU is the entire difference between massively succesful protests like today and Waymopalooza.

I will say I saw a lot more American flags at this protest than the one in May and I think it was a positive improvement.

Couple things I learned today: - Seniors are extremely fired up about this - "Fuck ICE" is a normie position now - People are MASSIVELY pissed off about Sen. Padilla being wrestled to the ground in LA - We all we got, we all we need

I generally think "defund the police" is a silly sentiment, especially "defund as in abolish", but if you wanted to specifically abolish the LA Sheriffs' Department, I think there's a case for it.

Between those who showed up to march despite a crazed gunman being on the loose and citizens of LA staying disciplined and revealing the LAPD's villainy, today was a crushing victory for the principle of non-violent protest.

Every day I go to work and solve my clients' crazy problems for the privilege of going home at night and solving every crazy problem standing between this guy and running the world's best sushi restaurant.

It’s pretty funny how that Hegseth guy keeps talking about war fighters and having a non PC military and right now he’s probably half crying screaming at some general about how this was supposed to be a very special birthday party

Folks, I looked up some other occasions on which the US Army has marched in the past century, and I am now torn between "that was obvious malicious compliance to indirectly protest Trump" and "the US Army allots zero time in their training schedule to learning how to march gud".

QUEER JOY IS RESISTANCE NO KINGS, MOTHERFUCKERS

Between the marching out of the step and the fact that they're not in their special dress uniforms (I'm reasonably sure they have special dress uniforms specifically for shit like this), I feel like we're seeing the Army version of civil disobedience.

This was the Eternals of military parades.

Yeah, this has to be deliberate orders on the back end: "Do your best to convey that you're here to have a good time, do not convey hostility."

I was not anything resembling an expert on Iran's air defenses, but my mental model for what "Israel v Iran air war" looked like admittedly did not resemble this. The dwarf superpower is at it again. I'm beginning to question the continued viability of the Iranian regime.
