The amount of explicitly pro-ED content on Instagram reels lately in particular is sort of insane, and in my experience Insta actively promotes it even to users who do not follow or engage with any content about weight or even “fitness.”

We turned the tide on DFW haters but we can't stop now. We must proceed with a pincer move to rout the Hemingway hater industrial complex

very cool that for ten years people at the heights of political commentary insisted to the point of rage that the paramount threat to free speech was “censorious” college students

Having him as mayor is going to suck so bad

one of the most insane normalized aspects of our political climate is politicians going after their own constituents in the name of anti-wokeness. what are we doing here

When you read the comments (I know), the stories of peoples' experiences with burdens are heartbreaking--and inevitably involve the most vulnerable beneficiaries. As a parent whose child has a significant disability, they're also kind of terrifying to read.

Please stop telling me about actual movies you like

wonderful. inventive. dizzyingly horny.

"You read books, eh?" A 1949 red scare Herblock cartoon about pressures on teachers that hits hard once again.

Does anyone have any favorite Scottish books or writers? (Besides Muriel Spark, the queen of all time, obviously)

This is my favorite kind of AI take: phrased as a dunk but immediately grants the central complaint that most people are actually making about LLMs, which is that they do not and cannot do the thing they’re widely marketed to do

I for one cannot wait to see the best "liberal Rogan" McKinsey can find

Burmese man with limited English refuses to sign papers he can’t understand. Next day ICE tells his lawyers they’ve put him on a plane to South Sudan

Tired: Biden was old/needs to go Wired: Trump is old/needs to go Inspired: The office of the president is old/needs to go

Every so often, political media will go out of its way to create a story and then externalize it as though it happened naturally at the hands of some other party. "Continued questions" from whom? "Emerging" from where? This is police shooting-speak.

At least 27 are dead in Missouri in Kentucky after severe weather alerts were delayed overnight because of DOGE cuts. www.mesoscalenews.com/p/tornado-wa...

All three sides

Breathtaking

Unpopular opinion: I'm tired of watching people eat in movies and TV. Meal scenes rarely add anything and they're basically all the same

Jus soli citizenship is one of the few inherently good things about the United States. Giving even a rhetorical inch on in it is a nightmare. It is the great leveler, an inherently democratic mechanism. Everyone born here is the same no matter who their daddy is. Despotically unamerican to end it.

It's funny (not really) that there are just two people on the Supreme Court who will clearly endorse any lawless evil the administration desires and neither was one of the three that Trump put on the court

Matt Yglesias is always talking about how people on the left should be more patriotic but birthright citizenship is one of the most American ideas we have. Opposing it is anti-American.

All moral arguments aside, birthright citizenship is a simple, elegant solution to prevent the emergence of a disenfranchised underclass of non-citizens who have been here for generations which *inevitably* emerges when you start trying to pick and choose with citizenship

A student asked me this this year as well, and it floored me a little. A few years ago I could have expected my students to know basically who Toni Morrison was and why she was important

Trump fired over 1,000 National Park staff in February, and most still haven’t been reinstated. The $45 million he’s wasting on a military parade for his birthday could have paid their salaries for over a year.

WTH man? Real World bro also serving as Transportation Sec Sean Duffy reportedly changed his wife's flight to avoid Newark and then went on TV to broadcast it's safe to fly in and out of Newark. @paleofuture.bsky.social w the details. ↘️

We valued Baja Blast more when you could only get it at Taco Bell. But our culture of immediate gratification leaves no space for the sacred

old enough to remember the breathless litigation over whether or not it was credible that the IDF may have possibly bombed 1 (one) hospital

The church said it's terminating a decades-long partnership with the federal government to help refugees arriving in the U.S., citing moral opposition to resettling white Afrikaners from South Africa.

This is obviously thinly-veiled racism. But it’s also a bullshit premise. Haitian refugees were thriving in Springfield. Bhutanese, Congolese, other refugees from Africa & Asia have reinvigorated Rust Belt towns and cities. Trump wants to send them all back.

It’s very queer.

🧵 Martin Diaz came to the U.S. as a toddler, fleeing cartel violence with his family. They had proof of the danger—a letter from a Michoacán official. He married a U.S. citizen & was advancing his visa. Then ICE showed up at his home in Spokane: no warrant, no ID #OnYourSide VC pslspokane
