tryna still share the lil joys.. sharing a bit about my relationship with my body and ways we can learn through that relationship.. the delayed enjoyment of this piece coming out is strange as my body — and many others — are under attack. #AcademicSky journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

A true privilege to witness Dr. @professorjulie.bsky.social present: Deny, Defend, Depose: Luigi Mangione & the Cultural Politics of Illness & Disability. Grateful to see the process of an idea turning into a talk-that will turn into a publication. Beautiful way to capture this cultural moment.

So how exactly does LinkedIn connections work? Are y’all accepting people you have never met? Are y’all accepting people with a lot of mutual connections?

Hola, Gabriel(he/él) here, 5th yr PhD Candidate at UT Austin. This year I’m TAing for Intro to LGBTQ Studies & collecting data for my diss that centers queer & trans Latinx/o people living w/disabilities in higher ed utilizing art-based participatory methods to posit more liberatory futures.

So how exactly does LinkedIn connections work? Are y’all accepting people you have never met? Are y’all accepting people with a lot of mutual connections? What is your protocol?

New op-ed out today! "We believe this rush to comply is a sign that universities are willing to become an institutional wing of the new segregationists." This op-ed was written with fierce love for our communities. That's who we serve. We will not be erased. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...

Important and timely piece! Institutions still have a responsibility to support the success of queer and trans students of color!

Now more than ever, it is important to support Queer and Trans people. In this practice brief, we (@drantonioduran.bsky.social @drqhutchings.bsky.social) imagine the ways we can address the needs of Queer and Trans men of color, specifically in men of color programs. psycnet.apa.org/record/2025-...

A thing I do is setup early career virtual coffees with the pre-tenure folks in my area in my department. I had one this morning and while I can't solve most of the big problems, I think it was helpful.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

Surprised by this at my doorstep, but humbled by the recognition! Such a great reminder to keep doing the work & the community will find it. Thank you to the faculty who nominated me, Dr. Thandi Sulé & grateful to my ACPA & @acpa_disability family for the support & honor!

Excited to share that we will be having an additional panelist for our first AERA Div G Webinar on how the social context of education is changing. Happening Feb. 28th from 1pm–230pm ET! Register here: tinyurl.com/DivG2025Webinar1.

Been wrestling with Pilgrimages/Peregrinajes Theorizing Coalition Against Multiple Oppressions by María Lugones.

A thing we (general academics) talk less about is when you shouldn't talk to a reporter. When you get signals that they will twist your words or the framing of the piece has already been set and it's factually inaccurate. Every time this has happened to me, I use my whisper network and I'm right.

I joined more than 350 LGBTQIA+ historians in signing this letter protesting the government attempt to erase trans people from history by censoring the Stonewall National Monument website. Erasing a word does not erase our existence--now or in the past. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I haven’t seen any updates if this has changed but so happy to be able to continue to love HEB. www.mysanantonio.com/business/art...

What are the ethical implications of including faces in photovoice projects where everyone is 18+? To complicate thus question-what are those ethical implications if the project is discussing aesthetics, embodied, and the every day life of collaborators?

Pre-orders for the 2nd edition of Social Studies for a Better World by me and @katyswalwell.bsky.social are officially open! Send me a DM with your receipt (must be purchased before the March 12 release date) and I'll enter you into a drawing to win one of four fantastic book bundles!

The White House’s “ASMR” video showcasing the shackling and deportation of migrants is a grotesque display of dehumanization. This administration’s perverse attempt to frame human suffering as soothing reflects a deeply disturbing and inhumane mindset. Reminder: The only felon is the President.

This cartoon was drawn in 1923. You could have fooled me. I thought it was published in 2023.

What types of methods book would you provide your PAR undergraduate research team?

I have two op-eds to share today! First up is an article in Fulcrum titled No Going Backwards: Cannot Take Down DOE. In it, I talk about the potential shuttering of the DOE as a movement toward (back to?) separate but equal. I’ll share the other later today! thefulcrum.us/inclusion-di...

It is the perfect moment to radicalize LinkedIn.

An inspiring article on courageous community college leaders who are *publicly* organizing and standing up against DEI attacks.. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

This paper shows exactly why I find it wild that scholarly associations aren't calling up their critical research members and asking how they've been navigating the world

Remember this administration is full of eugenicists. This is about eliminating disabled people from existence or redistributing them into places less visible. Black disabled kids will be most harmed from this as they’ll be targeted for punishment & prison.

Feeling appreciated! Yesterday I received the Advocate Award for my service to the Coalitions & Networks space. The Coalition for Disability has been one of my pockets within ACPA and student affairs. Let's have a meaningful day 3 everyone! #ACPA25 #HigherEd

Here, I explain how the February 14 "Dear Colleague" letter is a widely expansive distortion of the court’s ruling in SFFA. Institutional responses should remain focused on areas that the Supreme Court addressed and not expand to those clearly outside its purview. www.chronicle.com/article/hitt...

I feel so much gratitude when people tell me I didn’t know you could do that kind of research-generally related to my use of arts-based methods.

The goal has been to destroy public education (K-12 & higher education), I just didn’t realize I would witness it in my lifetime.

Critical and timely work just dropped addressing the legislative threats now happening throughout the country to academic freedom. A must read as higher education continues to be under attack. @jackiepedota.bsky.social @garceslm.bsky.social

New publication! Excited to share my essay in Educational Researcher where I call attention to big data policing as a model of surveillance and control in public schools and the necessary scholarly attention from legal scholars and education researchers. #lawsky #edusky doi.org/10.3102/0013...

Many are experiencing the legal pressures that states like Idaho and Oklahoma have been facing for years. This new open access article in JHE can help to make sense of the current moment, illuminating conditions that make pressures worse for faculty and those that empower them to not change course.
