While I'm still employed for now by the USGS, it seems like the writing on the wall is clear -- I'm officially looking for a new position. I'm a data scientist with 5+ years of experience with #rstats and spatial data, plus experience with Python/Rust/JS, looking for Boston or remote positions.

@lionelhenry.bsky.social and I are so excited to finally announce Air - an extremely fast R code formatter! 🎉 With Air, you'll never need to worry about styling your #rstats code ever again. All you need to do is save, and Air takes care of the rest. www.tidyverse.org/blog/2025/02...

It's not to late to submit to talk at #PositConf2025! I just submitted my talk proposal last night 😊

I haven’t been able to find a way to help with any #DataRescue efforts, but then I remembered I made an #RStats package with the U.S. College Scorecard data last year. So today I updated it with the latest data published early Jan. github.com/gadenbuie/sc...

It's work week at Posit, which means I got to sit down with @jcheng5.bsky.social to talk through some gnarly Shiny internals. A few hours of hacking later and I've solved the source of many bruised shins. autoreload will now fully reload the app when you change support files outside app.R!

Did you know? In 1968, 24 Black men in Pittsburgh revolutionized emergency medicine. The Freedom House Ambulance Service was established to provide emergency medical care to underserved Black neighborhoods—creating the world’s first paramedics.

What happens when you ask LLMs to judge output from other LLMs? It's a bit chaotic. A light #rstats tidyverse analysis of some data I collected about this: www.simonpcouch.com/blog/2025-01...

I can't help but notice that writing a formatter in Rust seems to be the start of a slippery slope toward amazing, lightning-fast tooling. (I'm looking at you, `air` 😉)

New on the tidyverse blog: reflecting on 3 LLM-based tools I've worked on recently to aid my work on #rstats packages and data science projects🤖 www.tidyverse.org/blog/2025/01...

My latest project lets you explore the entire commit history of any GitHub repo ✨ Obviously, D3.js was one of the 1st repos I tested. You can clearly see the 3000+ commits made by its creator @ocks.org! But also @fil.rezo.net & many others. nbremer.github.io/ORCA/commit-...

large language model the size of a small LLM

if I may, I think I have a SPECIFIC set of skills on this because I've protected research in highly reactive & conservative contexts. I know this is wild but you generally want to avoid "broadening" and "more universal" and all that. I like "pursuing high value underexploited strategic targets"

LLMs + #RStats are a powerful combo. I wrote a little post about using R to curate GitHub data and {ellmer} to program with LLMs to automate one of my least favorite tasks: remembering what I did this week. www.garrickadenbuie.com/blog/llm-wor...

📣 A little louder for folks in the back! I've been saying this for a while now... It's not that difficult to write a solid abstract. Check out my guide for more specifics. 👇 dev.to/thedanicafin...

If you are a member of an underrepresented group in data science, consider applying for a scholarship to attend this year's posit::conf() in Atlanta!

In all seriousness: the last 2 weeks of TikTok posturing and Zuck grovelling, combined with the X insanity of the last year, should show you that an app with a feed that you don’t control serves *other people’s interests* - not yours.

This whole TikTok thing is just preparing us for everything about the next four years happening in the stupidest way possible

Messing around with shinylive. For real, how are people not freaking out?!! Zero hosting costs, no online requirements, no installation required, nothing not a damn thing. #rstats #databs
