Still hard to believe but Béla Novák died suddenly on Saturday. We've lost a fantastic colleague, mentor & great friend to many. There was really no-one else like him. Working with him was so much fun & I owe him a lot. All my thoughts are with his family. www.merton.ox.ac.uk/news/remembe...

Excited to share our work on archaeal 3D genome! This paper revealed how an archaeal SMC complex sculpts TAD-like domains by cooperating with a roadblock NAP and physical properties of DNA. Many congrats to our talented PhD student Kodai! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The plasmids described in our recent ‘4G-cloning’ paper for multi-subunit complex expression (www.life-science-alliance.org/content/8/1/...) are now available from @addgene.bsky.social (www.addgene.org/search/catal...). Thanks to Addgene for distribution in this convenient and affordable format!

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute a little to this great study! Step by step we are beginning to understand how these wonderful machines work....

New discovery from our #CDlab reported in Cell @cp-cell.bsky.social today: SMC motor proteins have a left-right ‘gearbox’ and can switch direction in DNA loop extrusion! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... 1/

Interested in the plasmidverse? Then, don't think twice and join the International Society for Plasmid Biology Virtual Seminars Series. 👇

We are still waiting for applications to join us as a group leader in the department of Chromosome Biology! Apply until the first of Feb.

Do you know who Douglas Prasher is? Many don't, even though he is the person who cloned the original #GFP gene in the late 1980s. In my short history of plant light #microscopy I also cover a bit of his story - & why he is relatively unknown today, despite the importance of his work. See this 🧵👇

Awesome poster!

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record. They run them bc people react to them the most. If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change. It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

Congrats @bislightyear.bsky.social, Amar, Kevin, Eugene and co!

Latest #CDlab paper in Nucleic Acid Research: academic.oup.com/nar/article/... Great work by Alejandro Martin-Gonzalez, @tismaa.bsky.social ea collaboring with @gruberlab.bsky.social, showing the interplay of DNA supercoiling & ParB condensation, 2 processes that set bacterial genome organization.

Out today in Nucleic Acids Research! My final publication from @ceesdekker.bsky.social lab together with A.M. Gonzalez ! Together with @gruberlab.bsky.social in Lausanne, we show the interaction between supercoiled DNA and partitioning protein ParB. Read full: doi.org/10.1093/nar/...

Exciting times! Our latest preprint is now live 🤩! After nearly 16 yrs of running my lab, I truly believe this is one of the most significant contributions we've made. It offers fresh hypotheses about how pandemic Vibrio cholerae spreads globally. Let’s dive in!🧵..1/n www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
