Christians are overrepresented at every level of our government. There's no anti-Christian bias. The Christian persecution complex is not just theological, it's also about their waning cultural dominance and privilege. Also, snitches get stitches. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

After a mostly allergen free Winter, the lecherous flora of the Old Dominion has unleashed its depraved fury on allergy sufferers again.

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

this is such an obvious game of bullshit and it makes me insane that anyone falls for it. weird how schools are no longer "meritocratic" when they are trying to attract more black and hispanic students, but are perfectly meritocratic when they're not.

When he declares himself king, he is insulting you—and the nation. You have rights. The government is YOURS. And our loyalty is to the Constitution—the profound and fundamental essence of our nation. Not him. True patriots don’t bow down to kings.

"Where is the King of America?' Thomas Paine had an answer in 1776 in "Common Sense." And it IS common sense. In America, the LAW is King. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bjj...

My mom got cancer. She passed unexpectedly from chemo complications. It happened so fast. She was 81, and she could have lived to 1,000, and never run out of ways to contribute. Tonight I'm making a riff on one of her recipes. she taught me how to cook. She taught me how to be a person. I miss her.

The ultimate Southern barbecue insult? "Your Paw Paw ate a McRib, and he liked it." I'm a transplant myself, and, as a rule, I ignore self appointed food police. I still think it's funny though. youtu.be/SNLb2sWh6q8

north carolina republicans remain committed to their project of rigging the political system to keep democrats out of power

Spending 20 years of my life sworn to support, and defend a document that this country has only very slowly, and drunkenly stumbled towards taking seriously (Sort of) has only strengthened my resolve to hold the United States to the promises it has made, and the principles it claims to cleave to.

We're making a modified version of a recipe Gaby loves. Beer braised chicken with carrots, and parsnips. We use dried dill, and stout, and after the chicken is braised we remove, and debone it before returning it to the braising liquid. This turns into more of a stew. www.bigoven.com/recipe/beer-...

Tam-Tam is definitely feeling at home these days. She actively works at communicating, and is a quick study. She's also a helper. We can expect her to supervise any activity we engage in, and inspect everything. This is most true, of cooking, but she was very interested in furniture assembly too.

I try to be careful with my use of the word zealot because of the negative connotations that have attached themselves to it. I reserve it for persons so steeped in absolute certainty that they are convinced that they know what is best for others.

Can confirm, but most Uncle Dan's are, in fact, named some variation on Dan. Weird animal fact #26: In Winter painted turtles burrow into the mud at the bottom of a body of water, and use reduced metabolism, and cloacal respiration, among other strategies, to survive for months without surfacing.

I spent a lot of my life with a person who entertained every holiday season, and if all was not perfect then "*insert holiday* is ruined!" I still have trouble enjoying these holidays today. On the plus side I learned that I needed to get better at picking relationship partners, and I did.

I put Tam-Tam's cat bed inside the box the new vacuum came in, and a biscuit making extravaganza ensued.

Reminder that if you ever need a meal and can't afford it, find your local gurudwara, they will feed you a great hot meal for free, you won't even have to fetch a plate for yourself and they'll also give you a place to crash if you don't have one and there's room. gurudwara is open to all always

I'm not religious myself, but I share the same values as Dawn, and I'll make common cause for a better world with anyone else who does too.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

If you are at all interested in how your metabolism works, he's one of the folks who can tell you. www.science.org/content/arti...

I love this recipe. Chef Allibhoy has acknowledged only using two chilies at home for his mojo picón. I just adjust the heat as I see fit, and since Gaby only likes a little tingle I leaned toward's the chef's approach. www.thespanishchef.com/recipes/how-...
