Have you heard the story of the Brazilian dinosaur Irritator challengeri? 🦖🇧🇷 This dinosaur, a relative of Spinosaurus from the Cretaceous of northeastern Brazil 🌵🇧🇷, had its fossil remains taken to Germany 🇩🇪 — and that’s where they remain to this day. Let’s talk about it? ⚒️🧪 #IrritatorBelongstoBR

🧵 Hi everyone! I have a new paper out in Planetary Science Journal discussing volcanic activity on Jupiter's moon Io as seen by Juno's JIRAM instrument (IR imager and spectrometer): doi.org/10.3847/PSJ/...

Absolutely tired of the psychodrama of one country being the problem of the entire planet.

Anyway here's another photo of the Milky Way. This is looking towards the galactic core — the tip of Sagittarius is near the middle, Ptolemy's Cluster is off to the right, and the Lagoon and Trifid nebulae are towards the top left #astrophotography

So they just took the goods trade exports-imports imbalance and decided that means "tariffs charged to the US" (1, www.census.gov/foreign-trad...), then they also just did ½ that as the "reciprocal" tariff (2)... except they forgot Afghanistan? Like they forgot to export the first line on the table?

masterful gambit mr president

"Putin did it" is such a comforting lie. Is there something rotten in the heart of my nation? No, it's the action of the Perfidious Slav. Can I be held responsible for A Bad Thing? No, and nor can those who look and think like me. Ergo it is the bad man in the mysterious country of shadows.

The Atlantic is an official anti trans publication. Being anti trans and downplaying covid is their central agenda

I am thrilled to announce my second PhD paper, under the supervision of Luan Ghezzi, Kevin Heng, and Chloe Fisher 🪐📄 This study is a summary of my PhD thesis (2019–2024), where we analysed retrievals of HST WFC3 transmission spectra and parameter degeneracies associated with them. Read more ⬇️

Even with light pollution you can sometimes capture some pretty cool stuff in the right conditions! This was taken under a Bortle 6 or 7 sky #astrophotography

DOGE preferentially cancelled grants and contracts to recipients in counties that voted for Harris. No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, this is a wild finding. Source: buff.ly/2vBLXx2

Remember a while back I posted an image of ISS (below post), but captured FROM ABOVE (higher orbit). This is the work of Aussie company HEO! Well, they've done it again. This time imaging the Chinese Space Station from a distance of 83 kilometres (resolution of 0.17 m/px) 🤯 📸 BlackSky / HEO 🔭🛰️

openai’s new ghibli “generator” is explicitly an intentional attempt at humiliation of a prominent objector openai is culturally fascist as well as functionally fascist it’s not an accident

More star trail fun, this time about an hour's worth, facing south-ish at a wider angle. The south celestial pole is clearly visible just right of center, near the bottom, and a plane crossed through Mensa, Octans, and Apus. #astrophotography

Hope enough americans remember that sending plain clothes officers to detain and disappear people engaged in peaceful dissidence and deeming them "dangerous enemies" is, LITERALLY, gestapo behaviour. Start calling it what it really is.

Nosso querido canalzinho chegou a 60k inscritos.

In the last 3 days, 6 newly-discovered #asteroids passed closer than the Moon: 2025 FY6, 2025 FK3, 2025 FX6, 2025 FC2, 2025 FX2, 2025 FZ6.

First ever attempt at star trails — it's only about 25 minutes without much to look at, but I'm pretty happy with what was just a quick & dirty proof of concept :) The big red star near the top left is Gacrux, the 2nd brightest M-class star this side of the equator #astrophotography

Construído na década de 1860, o Observatório na Torre Malakoff, em Recife, fazia observações astronômicas e meteorológicas para a Marinha. Esse é o mais antigo prédio de um observatório ainda de pé no Brasil. 📷: Projeto Céu Profundo
