If Cas is saying this, we should listen.

It's arrived! It's always satisfying to see a new book in print for the first time! Great chapters from co-authors @drrmason.bsky.social and Banafsheh Keynoush as well.

Maybe you missed it, but amid all the chaos in the US, there was a meeting in China between President Xi and private sector entrepreneurs. Why? And how does it fit into China's wider economic and social challenges? That's the topic of my mini-podcast this week. www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

Hello! It's my regular weekly reminder that I'm on the search for any leads, opportunities or contacts that can help me land a highly desireable job in Brussels. Do get in touch if you have any and so I can take my family back to see the flower carpet in the Grand Place this summer!

We mention in the interview that @kristianulrichsen.bsky.social also has a new book coming out, The Kingdom of Football. It's not published until August, but you can pre-order it now from Hurst publishers here. Please do so if you can! www.hurstpublishers.com/book/kingdom...

Our latest episode is out. Do listen. What comes through is the thoughful and measured approach that @kristianulrichsen.bsky.social takes to examining the relationship between football and politics in the Gulf. It's a world away from the more hysterical presentations made in parts of the media.

After several key players failed to submit their climate change plans by Monday's deadline for COP30 later this year, I decided to take a look at the system for climate change management that we currently have and what other solutions are available. www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

It's Monday, so my weekly reminder that this Londoner (like Paddington) is looking for work opportunities in the Mannekin Pis's Brussels. Open to all offers & suggestions: research design, delivery, qualitative analysis, media commentary, podcasting, etc. Forward me any leads or contacts! Thanks!

Please do listen to this and find out how fans can manage their football clubs, often for the better. It's the latest in a number of community clubs we've done over the past year and a half. @drfrancescobelc.bsky.social loves doing these ones, so suggest names (including non-UK) for us to check out!

My latest mini-podcast about the on again, off again threat of tariffs by Trump is out. I look at the impact when he imposed them in 2018-20 and what this might mean this time around. Do have a listen, share and subscribe for future episodes! www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

Just my weekly reminder that I'm looking for opportunities and leads in Brussels. It can be anything: university, training, research, policy and policy analysis, research design and delivery, etc, etc. Feel free to DM or copy me in. The sooner ithappens, the sooner I'll visit the waffle wagon again!

This was a great one to do! I've experienced a bit of football there myself, when I was living there in 2012-13. I even attended a few games myself in Erbil, including the AFC Cup final photographed below back. It wasn't Erbil's day unfortunately, but it was a memorable one!

That a Republican has to tell Democrats this makes the point that the curent lot are useless.

My latest mini-podcast is out, where I look at M23's armed takeover of Goma in DR Congo: who they are, what they want, how the government has responded and the role of others, like Rwanda and Uganda in all of this. Do have a listen and let me know what you think. www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

Also worth noting how ChatGPT rephrases language related to "Israel" when I ask it to clean up my transcriptions.

Pulling the lens out a bit further, the change in attitude and acceptance of cheating in HE reflects wider shifts in society, especially the coarsening of political discourse. It feels we're at an end of something and can't see what's ahead. www.chronicle.com/podcast/coll...

Hello! This is my weekly reminder that I'm on the Brussels job market. Open to all suggestions, whether previous work--academic teaching or research, consultancy or politics--or current affairs, media, podcasting, football. Hit me with names or leads! Help me back to the Duden Park!

This was fascinating for @drfrancescobelc.bsky.social and I. We learned so much about Hong Kong having Asia's first professional league and its decline in football terms, along with its rivalry with China and the culture of fandom in the territory! Definitely worth a listen!

My latest mini-podcast is out where I look at the Edelman Trust Barometer survey and rising levels of public discontent and grievance. The answer: rebuild trust, but the problem is that it challenges those in power. Do listen and subscribe for future episodes! www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

For Blue Monday we can't think of anything more appropriate than this charming depiction of a man getting his face eaten off by a leopard. #MosaicMonday

Hello All! This is going to be one of ongoing updates that I'm looking for opportunities in #Brussels. Anything will do: #academic, #policy #analysis, #politic, #podcast... Get in touch with any contacts, leads or better yet, concrete opportunities! Thanks!

This was a great one to do. I remember watching the Soviet team and reading about the great players who played for it. But I was less familiar about the politics behind the scenes. So it was wonderful that Yacov sat down with @drfrancescobelc.bsky.social and I to talk about this.

Pinning the list of books I've published here, which gives you some idea of what I've done, can do and am interested in. I'm looking for policy/think tank related work in Brussels which might cover these areas (or not), so if you know of any relevant contacts or leads, then please DM me!

It probably can't hurt to send occasional reminders here: I'm looking to find work in Brussels, ideally in public policy, think tank or consultancy. Any suggestions, contacts or leads to follow would be welcome!

I do wonder how Zuckerburg thinks this will work out for him. He may have Trump's back when it comes to social media legislation but if a prosecution is brought where it can be shown Meta's policies had a role in causing harm then he's exposed regardless.

My latest mini-podcast is out, where I look at the broader issues of wildfires, climate change and how to respond to them--and how human are bad at being proactive in this regard. www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

This was really enjoyable to do. I love learning about football and politics in places that are not my field. Well worth a listen, I think!

My first mini-podcast of the New Year is out! After Elon Musk's attacks on British politics and politicians, I reflected on why people listen to him--and based on my holiday reading, why some other voices aren't listened to within government. www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

Check out our latest episode where @drfrancescobelc.bsky.social and I talk about what is coming up in Football Land this year, where they may be political ramifications.

My new mini-podcast is out. On Saturday South Korean President Yoon was impached for his attempted self-coup. I decided to compare and contrast why it failed against other similar attempts and the one recent successful one, in Tunisia in 2021. www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

Our last episode of the year! But don't worry, we'll be back in the New Year for more episodes. Do check this one out and let @drfrancescobelc.bsky.social and I know what you think!

It. Is. Done! (well, OK, only the first draft). But it is still a major milestone. I've been thinking, talking, researching and writing about a particular project for the past 20 years. So to have finally got a draft in hand is. Just. Great. Now all I need to do is find a publisher...

My new minipodcast is out. Rather than speculate on Syria's future, I have looked at some of the past literature on post-civil war settlements and whether military victories or agreements make a difference. I think it's informative. Do have a listen and share! www.buzzsprout.com/2354388/epis...

It addresses the problem... Sort of??
