Reading about the people known as "The Alans" and the entire chapter is being rendered internally in pure Partridge

Ventured to Kansas this week to write about how Trump’s funding cuts are already hurting some of his biggest supporters: farmers www.economist.com/united-state...

The Economist on the money here.

Predictable. Depressing.

My last night in USA: January ‘23 at a company meeting in Las Vegas and they put on a concert by The Killers just for us. Love USA but never going back.

“Our closest ally, the United States, is now supporting Russia, removing itself from the defence of Europe and the UK..We've got to make the defence of our country our top priority" @eddavey.libdems.org.uk

The most amazing thing about this terrible Leicester side (currently 0-3 v Brentford at half time) is that they’ve got 8 more points than Southampton. How bad must they be?

podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/p... Always excellent, this is a particularly good (and scary) episode with @lucyfisher.ft.com and @robertshrimsley.bsky.social

So in addition to running down the health service, schools, roads and everything else, it turns out we have run down our defence capability. Is there anything that wasn’t driven into the ground in the years 2010-24?

Top diplomats from the #G20, the top economies, gathered in #SouthAfrica on Thursday and Friday for meetings focused on a packed global agenda. Despite the absence of the US's secretary of state Marco Rubio, discussions took place on #Ukraine and #climatechange: www.rfi.fr/en/internati...

“If you’re not at the table in the international system, you’re going to be on the menu.” Anthony Blinken

Trump is on the brink of betraying Ukraine and the UK. Britain must lead in Europe by increasing defence spending immediately and all political parties should get round the table to make that happen. I fear what happens if we don't take this step.

Cheltenham and the surrounding area has a keen understanding of the need to invest in the defence of our nation and liberal democracy. It’s only right that in these dangerous times, our country finds a way to do that. I’m proud to back the Liberal Democrat plan to increase defence spending.

It matters that scientists speak out against what is being done to US science. Staying silent is neither "objective" nor "staying out of politics". Silence now *is* political - it supports the status quo, says "nothing to worry about". We need to sound the alarm. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

We're calling for cross-party talks to address increasing #defence spending - it could be paid for by using the frozen assets linked to Russia, & by increasing taxes on search engines and social media firms. UK defence plans need spelling out more than ever. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The Art of the Deal - a big fat MAGA wank. youtu.be/Jk0nUUqG_Ag?...

Football, eh?

There's a rumour that Nigel Farage is keeping his head down because he's off to a Trump cheerleading conference over the weekend. I’m afraid I’m being proved right- Farage is far more interested in Trump's success than British security. He is a bootlicker and a plastic patriot.

FT writers regularly skewering those who “lead” us.

He makes himself big

They can’t park the bus

God bless the tsars and stripes. The very best from @mrhenrymorris.bsky.social

Despicable (and this is happening in too many places. Armies, gangs, etc)

Yes

Some of the usual chants at the #GeorgiaProtests: “Until the end!” “The end of winter is coming - the people’s spring is arriving!” “Georgia, revolt!” “We won’t stop, schedule the elections!”

They gave back the wrong body. Lost for words.

Investment in UK’s crumbling public services is pro-growth, says pensions minister Vicarious pride alert. Again.

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn. It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies.

In the waiting room at the ultra sound clinic (don’t ask). When someone gets called, the nurse always asks how they are and the answer is always “not too bad”. Very English. If you’re “not too bad”, why the fuck are you clogging up the NHS?

Love what Ed Davey is saying on Trump.

The markets know and are unsentimental.
