Very exciting news! Sussex University is launching the UK’s first climate justice BA degree in 2026. It will equip students with expertise in climate politics, activism and environmental human rights plus practical green skills to drive change. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Free online masterclasses from my brilliant colleagues in the School of Global Studies at Sussex. Ideal if you’re considering a Masters degree.

In this new policy paper for @rielcano.bsky.social, I explore various challenges facing EU-LAC partnerships and also the opportunities to strengthen EU cooperation on climate action and a just energy transition with a focus on Colombia and Chile. More details below🧵

🇨🇴Happy to share my article on the Petro government’s big gamble to end fossil fuel licensing for my supervisor’s @peternewell.bsky.social's SUS-Pol project which is looking at policies that seek to limit fossil fuel production: www.linkedin.com/pulse/petro-...

Breaking: The Lula govt appoints Amb. André Corrêa do Lago as #COP30 president and Sec. Ana Toni as its executive director. Brazil's Climate Observatory suggests Lula’s delay in appointing a president reveals less consensus in his govt on the event compared with 2022: www.oc.eco.br/en/lula-choo...

Trump's aim to ramp up US🛢️ production, gut support for low-carbon tech & exit the Paris Agrmt is a betrayal of the global south which is the least responsible for CC & the worst affected. The EU has a big opp. to show the Global South it can be the partner of choice but must increase support.

Trump's aggression towards Panama presents a huge challenge to the LAC region, where unity continues to be very patchy. With Colombia poised to take over the CELAC presidency for 2025, and Laura Sarabia just announced as the new foreign minister from Feb 1, the Petro govt faces enormous challenges.

Here’s a short video and related interview I did with the Sussex Researcher School on my doctoral project, which is exploring how different actors are contesting and shaping Colombia’s just energy transition. Find the link below in the 🧵 and a few key thoughts from the interview.

The arrival of Heartland in the UK almost certainly presages a fresh wave of more aggressive climate science denialism and Big Oil propaganda nationally. Watch the media closely for signs of this.

Important webinar next week looking at the challenges and lessons of reducing fossil fuel production in Latin America and the Caribbean organised by @suspol.bsky.social.

Bienvenida Mónica!!

Trump is opening his administration to fracking billionaires, oil lobbyists and far-right climate deniers. Our global team of investigative reporters is tracking the damage. Here's a starter pack of DeSmog investigators and some of the climate disinfo journalists we follow. go.bsky.app/MrJdbio

🥳 Here's a starter pack with some friends and colleagues at Sussex University doing fascinating research on energy transitions, green militarism, climate change, the history of the British empire, war and violence and lots more. If I missed anyone let me know and I'll add them! go.bsky.app/CA5ENwu

🎉Wonderful news! If these 10 universities can commit to fossil free careers, then the excuses of others look increasingly unjustified. At Sussex, our own fossil free careers campaign will continue to make the case to uni leaders. On campus, there is strong support so let’s get it done!!

Bienvenido @egudynas.bsky.social!

This is the most striking image I took in June this year during my doctoral fieldwork in Colombia and shows precisely why rich nations at #COP29 must offer developing countries at least $1 trillion a year in climate finance. 🧵

"The Brazilian government, the United Nations and UNESCO are joining forces to strengthen research and measures to address disinformation campaigns that are delaying and derailing climate action." www.un.org/en/climatech... #COP29

Colombia’s transformative plans to diversify its economy away from fossil fuels and decarbonise its power sector deserve serious attention from the intl community. Rich nations at #COP29 should consider ramping up support to help it meet its goals and build confidence in the just energy transition.
