old Soviet joke for our times: Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to. Guy says: “looking for an obituary.” Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.” Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

I am at a place in Union Station with a number of craft beer options. One is a brewer called Rainhard, who have a pilsner called 4 on the Floor. Is this a reference to the Frantics? Their tv show on CBC used that name.

Whatever rules there are in Ontario around what is needed to be used as a polling location, Gamerz Galaxy surely meets none of them. Yowza, that was weird. Hard to have a secret ballot when other voters have to squeeze behind you

My Underground? Velvet

Oh, Platform 8, you always look so sad, but Platform 7 always gets to board the Lakeshore West train first. This is why I am always on platform 7, often before the platforms are listed on the board.

I have not seen all of these shows, but this graphic persuades me based on those I have seen.

What an awesome yet unnecessary future N. America is building for itself.

To think that complexity is an indicator of quality is really dumb, especially in music. Many people think of Beethoven as a genius. Yet most people will hum the opening to the 5th symphony or the Ode to Joy from the 9th - and not the late string quartets...

1 year ago today, the infamous 'Willy Wonka Chocolate Experience' took place.

Apparently my polling location for the Ontario election is a video arcade called Gamerz Galaxy. Not that I was taking this election seriously (the parties aren't, why should I), but I couldn't now even if I wanted to.

hello cis friends this is what people mean by trans genocide if a type of person does not officially exist, then any harm against them cannot be measured or reported this headline change isn't even being caused by an executive order it's simply the NYT editors deciding we don't deserve to exist

Umm, not a geography expert, but I don't think this map is accurate.

Blah, blah, blah, it's Tom Baker, as clearly proven by Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton.

This was good. An hour well spent. I have used some of these things in the past, and they do help. I've been the target of street harassment in the past - sometimes for who I actually am, but often because someone just thought I was gay, or in one case, a 12yo girl alone on a train platform.

I think the writing would have a Camus or Pinter type vibe.

Fascinating profile of a park ranger in San Francisco who works with unhoused residents and has adopted the novel tactic of treating them like human beings, building relationships, and helping them access resources on their own timeline.

Always do the unexpected, keep your foe off balance. Putin made it work on Trump. So can you.

Happy Valentine's Day? #DorothyParker

So if you've heard about those $200 cheques the govt of Ontario has sent out to every taxpayer, you may be amused to hear that some of them are bouncing, some banks are putting holds on some people's accounts - like, the whole account not just the cheque amount. Not amused would be people needing it

I was in Martinique for a day and a half (out of 4) before I learned this magic: rhum agricole (distilled without making molasses first), cane sugar, chunk of lime. Tried it with some aguardiente from Cuba: also delish! Tried with a few island and continental rums: does nothing.

This is a rather eye-popping thing to casually drop in a CBC story whose main point is how a rather eye-popping thing Trudeau said is only casually dropped into news reports from major US media outlets.

Ooh, that's a burn!

The Catholic church once classified the Capybara as a fish. Keep safe, little guys!

But it was totally not a Nazi salute thing...

Uhhh, wut???

My employer fired me without cause or notice after 22 years of very faithful service. Any employer can let people go, you just have to go reasonable notice or pay in lieu. They offered me 27 weeks if I signed release of liability and an NDA. I can see why they would want me to keep me quiet.

Courage can become contagious.
