Southampton student housing block to be demolished. It's 20 years old. Replacement to have 200 more rooms. I expect it to revert to coliving in 2030. Source: BBC search.app/umfYD

I've just finished/delivered my new book on hauntology, landscape and music. Out Nov! The end of England, post-Brexit malaise, the decline of the left, strange music, weird walking, ghosts of the past. You probably won't like it, but be brave and have a listen: www.mixcloud.com/gypjh2000/li...

I've just resigned from Geoforum editorial board over its decision to allow a paper to be published that is offensive and of incredibly poor scientific quality. I'm not going to mention the paper as it appears the author is delighted that the paper has offended people. We can do better!

Causeway action

Me, Phil and Tim started our PhDs in the same year, 1990, in Geography at the University of Birmingham. Thirty-five years later we've worn pretty well I reckon 🤔

In Verona for the first @legalgeolsa.bsky.social winter school which looks like great opportunity for young and emerging geographers interested in law and space to network and develop

Just did a couple of miles round London and then ran home another mile all with ton of books on my back to make sure I run everyday in January. All worth it if I can get at least a few more £££ for MND. Sponsor me here...thanks!

Delighted to see our KCL PhD student Charles Josefson is publishing such exciting work on disabilities and mobilities: (2025). Navigating identity: migration, and (dis)ability, and their cultural geographies in Venice. Cultural Geographies, 0(0). doi.org/10.1177/1474...

Folklore Tapes summon the fiery furnance of 1960s west midlands metal industry in the latest missive in the Ceremonial County series. Scary stuff. folkloretapes.bandcamp.com/track/west-m...

Published over xmas (thanks publishers!) but very excited to see Elara Shurety's first paper from her PhD studies of domestic mould. Important stuff and there is a lot more to come! bsky.app/profile/elar...

Watching Fanny Craddock carving turkey with garden secateurs reminds me I must get the hedge trimmer out to peel the potatoes on xmas day

Some of my (new) records of this year (excluding the #Broadcast demos CDs which were a highlight, and the Fire Engines retrospective Chrome Dreams) Lots of stuff on space, time and memory here... and some cracking tunes!

Shrinkflation: 5ft tree shorter than last year.

This isnt an argument to build smaller homes, but more subsided homes. While we're at it, reducing number of empty, second and oversized homes would be good. www.theguardian.com/money/2024/d...

Got taxi home after Xmas party, £345 tab to be picked up by South Western trains. Cheers for another year of unfailing incompetence guys!

This is odd: Torygraph discovers studentification 20 years after rest of us. And describes Headingley as picturesque: The picturesque university cities at war over student housing www.telegraph.co.uk/money/proper...

Tis the season of people asking me to vote for their institution in QS world ranking. Bad news is I always vote for the same places and usually put Southampton Solent top as their toilets are very clean.

There's a building centre exhibit by Sam Jacoby, @seyithanozer.bsky.social and others (RSA) until end Jan on housing standards (an international comparison). Really rich data, communicated in visually striking ways (videos, heat maps, models, 360 photos)! Well worth a visit

Train reading: brilliant book by Sabina Andron on graffiti and the city: the future of art is urban, as Lefebvre tells us. Think my students will love this
