None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

"You can be Russia's colony or ours" is not a way to run a railroad.

I think it's good we put the Hamburglar in charge of the McDonalds and I find nothing suspicious about the fact that his first act in office was disconnecting all the security cameras

In case anyone missed it, we have reached the "arrest teachers and librarians" part of the fascism The books in question are largely LGBTQ+ literature and resources. Though any book with sex with it can be targeted. Or rather, the librarian can if a child reads it. This was Page 5 of Project 2025.

Illegally cutting cancer research and meals on wheels to pay for PR ads for themselves.

If you take the totality of his public-facing career, Musk's hard turn deep into very online politigrift bubble because those folks made a concerted effort to gas him up to get him on the team, is going to turn into one an all-time Icarian falls, cause Elon Musk ain't built to handle public scrutiny

2 fucking headlines right next to each other

This is actually not uncommon with hate groups. "Hey, we're not anti-lesbian. We have a lesbian leader!" The key is that they regard whatever group they hate as subhuman with a few exceptional members that rise to the level of being human.

Rufo called me a groomer and sent his audience after my family because I said I was fine with my daughter going to therapy. CPS got called. It took months to get rid of them. My former colleagues thought it was hilarious and did nothing.

Spoiler: The glue is failing in freezing weather. Because they used glue on the Cybertruck.

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

WaPo about the TPUSA grifter who promotes vaccines cause autism conspiracies and features episodes discouraging toothpaste and cancer screenings while also preaching that LGBTQ+ people should be barred from having children and fantasizes about publicly executing immigrants: “wellness influencer”

Odd how "efficiency" always requires firing the watchdogs

Yes, it is entirely correct to point out that ICE officers do not have any legal authority to break into somebody’s home unless they get a judicial warrant; which they generally cannot do, because judges only issue warrants for probable cause of crimes, not immigration law violations.

I'm happy to dump on co-President Musk and his gang of miscreants but ... Falcon 9 is exceptionally safe. I'd trust my dogs on one.

OK. Good news is we don't have any indication (yet) that this is going to break out into the human pop. Most viruses don't. The bad news is that in in the unlikely event that it does, we are screwed, given the gang of doofuses in charge. nypost.com/2025/02/21/w...

Trump fired Brown because of his race, and wants to replace him with a white candidate who is unqualified according to the statutory requirements.

Biggest crybabies on the planet.

One thing this little bleat from Chad “Damp Little Britches” Mizelle demonstrates is the duality of Trumpism: it’s about simultaneously being (1) a tough truth-telling masculine elbow-thrower and (2) as fragile as a porcelain goose. Bullies who can dish, but weep at the slightest pushback. Losers.

“Criticizing the government is not a crime.” It is significantly less than ideal that this needs to be said.

This saves no money. It's just being a jackass for the sake of being a jackass.

Right now, low- and middle-income CA residents are going to subsidize rebuilding multi-million dollar mansions because that state, in its infinite wisdom, capped rate increases for fire insurance. All but one private insurer, of course, stopped renewing and writing new policies.

Treat this story with extreme skepticism.

Literally just talked to an Afghan Uber driver in DC tonight who said he worked as an interpreter for US military for four years — and his wife is now trapped in limbo. He’s spent $16k in legal fees. “I served the US, I should have my wife here”

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

When your definition of “conservative” is “absolute adherence to a madman”, everyone starts to look liberal.

Y'all, this is what progress looks like. McCormick may defend the cuts but you can be sure that an event like that left him SHOOK. Will he change his ways? Maybe not him, this one's drunk a LOT of Kool Aid. But his colleagues will take note and some of them may change course. Keep up the pressure!

FIRE’s brief is exceptionally good and refutes the “you can regulate fake news” fatuity that you hear from both right and left.

One thing to add to Chise's excellent thread. My dad's a surgeon and when wife was diagnosed, I asked why they don't surgically remove pancreatic cancers. It's because the surgery has a VERY low survival rate. In 50 years of practice, he did it twice. So cancer vaccines would be a godsend.

"Disrupt," "disruptor," and "disrupting" are all dirty words to me now.

This lawsuit was about discriminating against refugees. I expect all such lawsuits to be dropped eventually and discrimination against refugees to not just be allowed but actively encouraged.

DOGE is scrutinizing grants of a few million while burning through tens of millions with no accountability. I mean ... $40 million is a lot of blow-up dolls.

The only reason anyone over 40 should use young people's slang is to annoy their kids by using it wrong or really irritate them by using it right. If you do not have kids, just post online. Some teen will find it and roll their eyes into the next century and you'll know you're doing the Lord's work

Everyone who has gotten a vaccine in the US—which the vast majority have, multiple times—heard a medical professional say "do you have any questions?," signed a consent form, and received a detailed information sheet (often multiple pages long). Everyone knows this. Another reality-inverting lie.

We're seeing the world's richest man have a mental breakdown in real time.

I think Sullivan is being a bit hysterical but the gist is right: Trump has aligned us with dictators and murderers against democracy. andrewsullivan.substack.com/p/requiem-fo...

One of the myths about Trump is that he is good at deals. He is absolute dogshit at them. He fails to recognize the cards he has, concedes critical issues in advance and will back out on a whim. Of course, in this case, the deal he wants is that Russia conquers and genocides Ukraine, so ...

This guys is a doctor. He should know better.

Tomorrow in the NYT: I voted for Donald Trump because I hate the people he hates and wanted to see them suffer. Now that I am suffering, why can’t you find it in your heart to be sympathetic? RUDE

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️
