Is Elon Musk as misinformed about public policy as he looks? If he weren't, it would accidentally slip once in a while that he's been influenced by a thoughtful book or article. But there's little indication he gets his info from anything but memes. www.richardhanania.com/p/can-bezos-...

Many of us were excited when Elon Musk bought X. Yet seeing his decline has been horrifying. But if one billionaire disappoints, maybe another can save us. I wrote some thoughts on whether Bezos' new policy at the Post can bring elites to free markets. www.richardhanania.com/p/can-bezos-...

The person that the Trump administration tells courts is the administrator of DOGE.

I am trying to understand why they are clapping here and can’t quite figure it out.

I am trying to understand why they are clapping here and can’t quite figure it out.

Has anyone else paid their down payment on the private jet they're getting because of all the minerals we're taking from Ukraine? I discuss with Michael Tracey. www.richardhanania.com/p/were-getti...

Why are rightists making Nazi salutes and being ironically racist even when they've solved the censorship issue? I argue that they're like the LGBT movement, unable to move away from their aggressive posture even after they've won, inviting a potential backlash. www.thefp.com/p/nazi-salut...

I have a new discussion up about the first two episodes of season 3 of The White Lotus, with my new friend Sophie. We discuss Chadcels, incest dynamics within families, and more. Listen here. www.richardhanania.com/p/chadcels-a...

We knew DOGE wasn't going to reduce spending, but I thought maybe there was a broader plan to control the bureaucracy. Coming around to the idea that it's all just stupidity. I can't think of any obvious or 4d chess reason why you'd stop funding biomedical research. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/s...

Flu vaccination rates are down, so hospitalizations and death are their highest in years. There’s no other cause like anti-vaxx. The more it succeeds, the worse health outcomes are. Everyone who helped normalize this should be ashamed.

Looks like exit polls were right in the German election and AfD had its best showing ever, around 20% of the vote. How worried should you be? I looked into the idea that the party was fascist and wrote about it here. www.richardhanania.com/p/is-the-afd...

At a press conference in Kiev, Zelensky offers to step down in exchange for peace and NATO membership. Putinists simply don’t understand the man. They’re cynical and self-interested, and lose their minds in the face of real patriotism.

DOGE is becoming an issue like vaccines. Casual observers think of it as right versus left. Opinion divides more along informed va uninformed. None of the claims about what DOGE is doing make any sense even from a fiscal conservative perspective, you can’t defend it if you’re connected to reality.

People are expecting Elon and Trump to eventually break up. This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of their relationship. Why the Trump-Musk bromance is built to last. www.richardhanania.com/p/the-trump-...

What do you guys think?

DOGE claims to have saved $55 billion. WSJ is able to find $2.6 billion over a multiyear period. Only 2% of savings are related to DEI. The rest is stuff like a clinical test for a a drug to help with Alzheimer's. Now that's some real government efficiency.

A list of connections between the AfD and fascist elements in Germany. It's clear many distasteful people in the country see the AfD as a vehicle to achieve their ends. Whether that means it should be isolated completely is a different question. www.richardhanania.com/p/is-the-afd...

Should I believe in God? I read Ross Douthat's book on why everyone should be religious and decided to have him on to talk about it. We go through the arguments for God, evidence for the supernatural, whether God saved Trump, and more. Not to be missed. www.richardhanania.com/p/does-god-w...

There's a lot of debate over whether the AfD is a fascist party. The evidence is that it has ideological overlap and connections with fascists. Yet you can do a thought experiment with the Republican Party and they would be fascist by that standard. www.richardhanania.com/p/is-the-afd...

Is the AfD a fascist or crypto-fascist party? I do a deep dive into the question. While it has many fascists among its members, if that was grounds for a ban or isolation, you'd have to advocate the same for Republicans and many leftist parties too. www.richardhanania.com/p/is-the-afd...

How should we understand what DOGE is doing? I argue that you can make an analogy to commissars in communist regimes or how DEI works. Rather than be about spending, it’s a way for the top of the executive branch to exert control over the bureaucracy. www.richardhanania.com/p/doge-as-a-...

It’s Saturday night, and I’m here to provide what you need. A 5,000 word essay on why America needs more corruption. I explain why you should stop worrying about Elon’s conflicts of interest, and learn to love Chinese billionaires buying our politicians. www.richardhanania.com/p/american-g...

In every other conflict, removing vulnerable civilians is considered a good thing. In the case of Gaza, we hear the charge of "ethnic cleansing." I explain why this wouldn't meet the definition, and why you shouldn't care about stupid word games anyway. www.richardhanania.com/p/letting-pa...

What race were the Ancient Greeks? What did the Indo-Europeans look like? Were there lost civilizations? These used to be questions you'd speculate about while high. But science now knows, and Razib Khan has the answers. Watch us discuss here. www.richardhanania.com/p/the-miracu...

History provides few unambiguous lessons. But here's one: Luddites are always wrong. "Think of the jobs" is never a good guide for policy. I explain why this will remain true, even in a world where AI can do all cognitive labor. www.richardhanania.com/p/why-you-sh...

I don't like that this website call me an impersonator, but in case anyone still finds me here, I have a new article today. www.richardhanania.com/p/nationalis...

Just did an Inauguration Day live stream. Watch as I scroll the NYT and X, and discuss topics including the Biden pardons, Trump's executive orders, Barron's potential, the latest Musk scandal, and more. www.richardhanania.com/p/inaugurati...

Ayn Rand's novels are always among lists of books that most influenced Americans. Does she have anything to teach us today? I argue that, in a world where statism is granted the moral high ground, she gave us the moral defense of capitalism we need. substack.com/home/post/p-...

I discuss the Panda Express controversy with Rob Henderson. I'm all for following your dreams. But people need to realize that there is a status-income tradeoff throughout the labor market. We also discuss what kinds of jobs can limit dating options. www.richardhanania.com/p/should-ame...

Hey @safety.bsky.app, I am not an "impersonator." I have posted about this on my longstanding X account, showing I'm the same person. Please fix this.

Should we welcome Indian immigration? I debate the question with the great and always provocative Amy Wax! I argue our policy orientation should be a hyper paranoia towards the possibility of locking out genius. Watch here, with timestamps. x.com/RichardHanan...

The right now dominates podcasts, Trump staffs his admin from Fox News. The last few years have been good for the theory that "Liberals Read, Conservatives Watch TV." Here is Ch 3 of my book on Elite Human Capital, which updates the arguments. www.richardhanania.com/p/readingtv-...

I’ve apparently been marked as an “Impersonation” account. It’s me though. How does one challenge or get rid of this?

I realize that many of these online right types have more faith in the government than any leftist. If government has programs for women and minorities, it means white men can’t get ahead, because government is just so good at getting the demographics it wants in every field.

The draft of Chapter 3 of my book on Elite Human Capital will be published tomorrow. Leave your email here to become a free newsletter subscriber and get it in your inbox. docs.google.com/forms/d/19vK...

Just did a livestream on -Being a fire refugee this week -Having TWO babysitters whose houses burned down -Water policy, DEI, the insurance industry, controlled burns -The coming TikTok ban -Debating white nationalism, and how you can expose their ideas Check it out! x.com/RichardHanan...

After three days of suffering as a California fire refugee, my ordeal is over and I'm back home. I wrote about the experience here, and my newfound solidarity with all the other suffering people of the world. www.richardhanania.com/p/thoughts-o...

Annexing Greenland is such an important cause that I took time out of being an LA fire refugee to talk about it on Rising this morning. Watch here. youtu.be/Ygjl5N-Kv9E?...

We all thought buying Greenland was a joke. But Trump keeps bringing it up, Jr just arrived, and now Elon Musk is posting about it, which is how the purchase of X started. It's now worth dreaming about. Here is how it could happen. www.richardhanania.com/p/should-ame...

It’s so ugly. You won. Take a day off from the nonstop desire to humiliate. How could there not be a part of you that feels shame that the other side so clearly has the moral high ground? Instead you laugh at them for having decency. Liberals, I’m sorry. You’re good people.

I'm at the 90th percentile of Ayn Rand appreciators. Just had a conversation with Alex Epstein, who is at the 99th percentile. We cover Rand's fiction and defense of capitalism, in addition to her remarkable life. Watch or listen here. www.richardhanania.com/p/at-the-90t...

Should America welcome Indians? Should we fear a browning of America? Come join me to debate the topic with the always entertaining Amy Wax. Monday, January 6, at 5:30 ET/2:30 PT, here on Substack. See our exchange on the topic here: www.richardhanania.com/p/exchange-w...

Tyler on the immigration issue: “I’ll say it again — cost-benefit analysis, cost-benefit, and cost-benefit analysis.  Let’s have a little more of it, at the margin of course.”

I'll be debating Amy Wax on whether we should welcome Indians to America on Monday at 5:30 ET. Until then, read this exchange we had on high-skilled immigration, where I argue whites can still be themselves with non-whites around, just wealthier. www.richardhanania.com/p/exchange-w...

I explain the basics of American politics. The strength of one party is that it is racist/xenophobic. The strength of the other is that it's socialist. We're lucky that racism and socialism are on opposite sides, because it they were united on one side it would win.
