made a handle for this beaten up gouge i found in the used tools bin at the hardware store, sharpened it as best i could (need to make a gouge strop still for flattening the inside better, i just used a conpound-charged dowel to sort of roughly strop the inside), and carved this little pencil dish.

finished up the joints on this little tray i have been working on in bits and pieces for months. very pleased at how well it fits together! will glue it up and finish it, but honestly, it’s a good enough fit that i don’t even think it strictly needs glue. my first dovetails. very pleased.

my big problem right now is that when i put together my bench, i didn’t add enough support battens across the bottom and now the whole thing has twisted a bit. 😭 going to add a few battens so that it doesn’t move too much more and flatten the top. lot of work. lessons learned every day.

after a few weeks of using the nice sharpening guide i got for christmas i am being brave and practicing freehand sharpening again (so muxh faster) and i got this beautiful gossamer curl from my tune up board. really magical the smoothness from a well set up plane.

im being so brave and going to try to attach a bottom of a little dovetailed tray today. cut some beautiful grooves on two of the sides of the frame to slot the bottom into. gotta be less precious about finishing things. i can always make another! and i need practice.
