My friend just drove past the same field. She said it looks like the forensics team are out looking for evidence πŸ”

Standing in a queue for ice cream at Jannetta's in St Andrews, trying to make a decision from over 50 flavours, I can't help but hear the couple behind me. She reads the list aloud, ums and ahs over each one and finally decides on strawberry. He just says, "Plain. I want plain."

These things at the end of St Andrews pier are, in my opinion, otter bollards.

When one too many walkers have traipsed through your garden.

Driving past a field I see the farmer has put disposable coveralls amongst his crop to scare the birds, hood up to form the head and one arm raised in a permanent wave. Their translucency makes them look like the ghosts of scarecrows past.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, why is it so happy? 😁

I've always loved this photo of these two intrepid ladies! Not sure if it's still on display at the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, it's a while since I've been.

Nice things happen when you don't mow.

There are chirpy baby coal tits everywhere in the garden at the moment. This wee fella sat there while I topped up the feeder, obviously hasn't learned to be scared yet!

Caught red handed in the snack cupboard! @scotsquirrels.bsky.social #redsquirrels

A blackbird is having a very enthusiastic bath, water spraying everywhere. A wood pigeon, parked up in the sun next to the birdbath, decides to take the opportunity to have a shower, one wing stretched up in the air to wash under his armpits.

1. Hang up nut feeder for birds 2. Watch crows scoff nuts 3. Add wire basket to keep off crows 4. Add dish of seed underneath feeder 5. Watch crows scoff seed 6. Add bungee strap to keep off crows 7. Inadvertently recreate the robot from 'Metropolis' #pareidolia

At the cafe table next to us a man tucks into his all day breakfast. He suddenly stops and exclaims "there's no egg!". Behind him we see the waitress cautiously making her way to his table balancing a steaming poached egg on a saucer.

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧡 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.

A few years ago I noticed some self seeded plants I didn't recognise growing in the pots in my back yard. I dug them out and put them in a pot, when they flowered I looked them up and they turned out to be Northern Marsh Orchids. So beautiful 😍. Thought you'd like this @justsmudge.bsky.social !

The squigs arrived at 5.40am and started tap dancing on the roof. Tried to doze through it and almost succeeded, until one tried to run up the velux window, claws clattering on the glass, going nowhere. It eventually ran out of steam and slid to the bottom in classic cartoon fashion. #redsquirrels

I've been noticing little piles of blue petals in the garden. Have just seen one of the squigs* pick a cornflower, pull all the petals off and eat the middle bit. Mystery solved! * much easier to shout than "baby squirrel!" whenever you see one #redsquirrels

"May snow" "Really, it's not forecast?" "No, may snow" "Frozen precipitation in the fifth month?" "No, MAY SNOW!" * blank look * "Ok, hawthorn blossom then"

Good crop of Scottish sunshine this year. We harvest it, put it into big barns and open the doors on gloomy winter days to stop ourselves getting SAD. #SundayYellow

In the garden I suddenly hear a raucous sound and look up to see a mass of crows and rooks lifting off from the trees and moving across the sky. In their midst is a buzzard, being escorted off the premises.

I sent this clip to my brother. He assumed I'd been lying in wait for hours, dressed in camouflage with mud streaks on my face and a giant telephoto lens the size of a waste paper bin. I said no, I nipped out into the garden for two minutes with my phone in my dressing gown and slippers πŸ˜‚

The babies are growing fast. Getting into the snack cupboard is much easier when you're bigger. #redsquirrels

We all know how important it is to put water out for the birds, but bees need water too! Some stones or gravel in a dish of water gives bees somewhere to land and drink safely from shallow water 🐝 #WorldBeeDay

In a cafe, a little boy with spiky hair and glasses sidles slowly up to our table. I give him a big smile and say "Hello!" He puts a little packet of brown sugar on the table in front of me then runs away back to his dad.

The squirrels must have been busy last year. Yesterday I cleared the weeds out of an old sink in the back yard ready to replant, and dug up two whole walnuts which were starting to germinate. I've put them in pots to see if they grow. Always fancied a walnut tree πŸ˜‚ #RedSquirrels
