When you're speculating on why people voted Reform, here's what Labour is doing to the places that did. Something like 60% of the households in Easington are living in poverty. Their lives aren't being made better by Labour, they're desperate for change. Desperate. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Well, here’s one clue as to why Labour councillors have paid such a heavy price here in the north-east… www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...

THREAD Proposed cuts to Personal Independence Payments (PIP) could have a “devastating” effect on some of the most deprived communities in northern England, according to our new report www.healthequitynorth.co.uk/red-wall-con... 1/8

Analysis from Health Equity North predicts that the Labour Government's proposed cuts to Personal Independence Payments (PIP) will cost the North East economy £268.83 per person

Great to see coverage of @healthequitynorth.bsky.social analysis. North East and North Wes are set to be the hardest hit - constituencies with highest losses also have lowest life expectancies which means health inequalities are likely to widen even further. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Today we publish new analysis from @healthequitynorth.bsky.social shows the devastating impact of PIP cuts on the North’s economy www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Improving working age ill health is fundamental to our society - i. the north of England this fact is screaming out yet austerity and continuing underinvestment in the poorer parts of the country continues to see things worsen

Delighted to have authored this report, launched today, busting one of the biggest myths in British politics. The public doesn't see action on public health as 'the nanny state'. In fact, they want bolder action - incl among key swing voters. This has major implications for policy & politics. 🧵

📢A new study from @uniofbath.bsky.social shows London's low emissions zones have had major benefits for human health and the economy, with a 10.2% decrease in respiratory issues following LEZ implementation, an **18.5%** reduction in sick leave, and annual public health savings of over £37 million.

This will be a brilliant event - and we’re well on the way to sell out so don’t delay!

ME is a devastating illness with inadequate research, treatment and a huge, hidden number of sufferers

A @bmj.com editorial written by our Academic Co-Directors @profkepickett.bsky.social and Prof David-Taylor Robinson has claimed how a UK ‘wealth tax’ imposed on the wealthiest 0.04% of the population could help to close the inequalities gap. www.healthequitynorth.co.uk/a-uk-wealth-...

Today we joined @cpaguk.bsky.social and @endchildpoverty.bsky.social outside the treasury to mark a miserable milestone. By this weekend, 30,000 extra children will have been pushed into poverty thanks to the two-child limit since the Labour Government came into power in July 2024. 1/2

New research by Labour Together reveals the nature of inequalities in public investment. What we call 'growth spending' is 41 per cent lower in the East Midlands per capita than it is in London. Here's a regional breakdown:

My parliamentary committee has published a report on children in temporary accommodation. In the last 5 years, temporary accommodation has contributed to the deaths of at least 74 children - 58 were under the age of 1! That’s appalling, action is needed now. committees.parliament.uk/committee/17...

🛏️ 12 years on from the introduction of the bedroom tax & its impact is unequal ➡️ 16% of social rental households in England on UC face the bedroom tax. But in the North, it's 20% ➡️ The North East is hit hardest, with 1 in 4 social renters likely penalised @indiaippr.bsky.social explains ⤵️

250 000 plunged into poverty 50 000 of them children   This is unconscionable.  My constituents know I have always fought poverty. I will not stop now.

Yesterday we attended the Life Science Integrates FemHealth event, addressing the gender gap in healthcare & within the health industry workforce. Our Board member @kathmackay.bsky.social opened the event citing our Woman of the North report and the regional inequalities in women’s health

Key point is this hasn't happened elsewhere. We're really unusual in how little we support those who are unemployed. It's the root cause of so many problems in the benefits system (and society more generally).

Rightly, a lot of analysis of @teamlabouruk.bsky.social historic cuts to disability benefits announced today. But, please, if you read and share one thing make it Brian’s piece in @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
