Check out the shadows made by the tree ferns. šŸ˜

Iā€™m a terrible filer and have happily relied on the file search function to find stuff. But recently it works far less well than it has for, 15 years or so. Is it me or the tech? Iā€™d say both apple and pc have declinedā€¦sounds like itā€™s me.

Children who died because the policy is to expose them to the risk of dying, as a warning to others

Left and right is now hers and his, wot.

You GUYYYYSSSSSSS The military choir sang Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Mis at the governor's dinner at the white house. Thanks to @beebrookshire.bsky.social for helping me fact check tihs one. As far as I can it's only "officially" been posted on Dan Scavino's FB

Kiwi fruit, thatā€™s what is up.

Itā€™s almost like when Labor lurches to the right people think well we might as well have Liberals then

Itā€™s arrived! So great to finally hold this volume in the @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social Cultural History of Fame series. Itā€™s taken quite a few years but hopefully youā€™ll think it was worth the wait šŸ¤“ My chapter is on scandal and infamy!

Very uncool to treat an innovator and generous creator in this way:

A big hole was ripped in campus life when VSU happened. Campus life/engagement was killed and only the international student groups sustain it now. We are all the poorer for it.

There might be a few too many ā€œteachable momentsā€ being produced for my class on the Far Right in Europe rn than is strictly speaking comfortable.

Last night's Media Watch is essential watching. I hope that Linton Besser doesn't get carpeted for this one. Amazing to see how the Tele tried it's hardest to create a scene just so it could report on something it's helped to create - racial tension. #MediaWatch www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/e...

Last week I put on this ā€˜Histories of Aotearoa NZ Capitalismā€™ workshop at the University of Auckland and got to hang out with these amazing people for two whole days! Brilliant papers all-round, including keynotes from Jim McAloon and @hannahforsyth.bsky.social šŸ”„

Iā€™ve just had two incredible days in Aotearoa talking about the history of capitalism with wonderful scholars and activists. Excited to also pick up this bookšŸ‘‡

Arrived in Auckland to stay in this building between the docks and a full moon.

First I had to declare that I went for a bushwalk yesterday, have backyard chickens and it is possible that there might be almonds in the bottom of my backpack.

We stopped at some sort of building site. A lady was silently helped out and bags were removed from the trailer. Sheā€™s not here anymore. Possibly murdered. Or at her home, who knows. Maybe both šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

30% sale is on again at Bloomsbury!

Today I flew to Auckland. I took a stupidly early train in case the continuing industrial dispute slowed me down (solidarity, railway folk). I *just* remembered it was in another country and brought my passport and went to the international airport.

Geoffrey Sherington has been donating lots of his books to me. Iā€™ve only been able to rapidly skim this 1968 beauty in the state library before. Iā€™m at the airport on my way to Auckland for an exciting history of capitalism thing and reading is so fun. #nerd

Useful, necessary even. Definitely corrupting. Merit is like money - and is part of the system of academic exploitation. open.substack.com/pub/hannahfo...

I read ā€˜reparationsā€™. Go well, Pilbara.

40 years ago a small number of believers ran around purposefully turning universities into ā€œbusinessesā€ run by managers with metaphorical muscle. Timeā€™s up for that ideaā€¦ open.substack.com/pub/hannahfo...

Last night I dreamed Elon miniaturised himself to around 8cm. Tiny Musk wielded a tiny sword, squeaking incomprehensible stuff. Dream me poked him with a stick for a while until he pulled a gun that was as big as him. Really. That was the dream.

In the last two academic years, 2022/2024, at least 17,600 jobs have been lost in UK Higher Education. 2024/2025 is set to be far worse. Had this been any other industry there would be outrage and gov action. As ever, young people don't count and neither do university workers. Labour doesn't care.
