The Bandwagon back on video! We did almost 40 minutes of Fan / Not a Fan today — early season overreactions, managers in casual clothes, stunt food at the ballpark, baseball as cinema, karaoke! and more... bandwagon.substack.com/p/fan-not-a-...

We’re doing the first video of The Bandwagon’s Substack era later today — so please give us stuff to talk about!

will try to say this without sounding too bitter: diversity for diversity's sake IS inherently good. Especially in media it's valuable to offer a different perspective. Or for a little while it was. Now there's so much blowback for perceived ~DEI~ that bigots have succeeded in making it a liability.

a small behind-the-scenes of my work right now: i liked the relievers idea but was caught between doing it quickly for bandwagon or taking more time to gather more thoughts/write it more thoroughly as freelance feature somewhere. I even texted @zcrizer.bsky.social about this (repeatedly)

New version of The Bandwagon, same central question: Fan or Not A Fan? @hannahrkeyser.bsky.social and I are recording our first semi-regular video live on Friday. And we want YOUR prompts. Submit inside. bandwagon.substack.com/p/14-relieve...

I loved the conversations I had for today's newsletter and could have just kept on asking relievers if they get a little miffed that baseball is trying to legislate them out of the game. But I decided instead to stop here so you can enjoy them too.

Why are there so many gender reveals happening in baseball this year? I would write about this if I could figure it out but I can’t

In which I try to step way back and put Aaron Judge's ongoing peak in perspective. bandwagon.substack.com/p/13-behold-...

Today in The Bandwagon, I wrote about in-fun facts and team identity open.substack.com/pub/bandwago...

Feels like this should come up a little sooner than 30 paragraphs into the story www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/u...

Kelly Davis, the Phillies' manager of team security since 2020, has seen it all. For 15 years, he worked undercover in the narcotics unit for the Chicago PD. From 1995-99, he worked as Dennis Rodman's personal security guard. "This is vacation for him.” www.inquirer.com/phillies/a/p...

Oh this is fun! I went on @tippingpitchespod.com this week and if you scroll to the bottom of today's bandwagon, they have a cool offer for readers bandwagon.substack.com/p/12-home-an...

Today on The Bandwagon: what it means to be home, home run robberies that don’t matter, and making fishing rods. open.substack.com/pub/bandwago...

This was five years ago! One of my most correct takes. (Also Bandwagon was a good show)

re-sharing this because it feels relevant to the Jackie Robinson Day discourse: there is only one non white man head of baseball operations this season, the fewest in at least 20 years. bandwagon.substack.com/p/2-a-white-...

what's really galling about this edit is ... how unobjectionable the 2024 version was. It already skims over the racism! Their editing out not even the hardship but literally the idea of making things *better* in a specific way.

It’s my blog and I can blog about a week-old news story if I want to. On the chilling meaninglessness of the Dodgers’ visit to the Trump White House open.substack.com/pub/bandwago...

What’s the best sport to nap to(complimentary)? Feel free to also address: what’s the best sport to nap to(derogatory)

I believe that sentiment is directed at the ump but could very well be the whole situation in south Philly

I give a strong recommendation to The Bandwagon Substack, authored by @hannahrkeyser.bsky.social and @zcrizer.bsky.social. It's fun, delighting in baseball's personalities and eccentricities. It's smart and knowledgeable as well. You should subscribe. bandwagon.substack.com/p/10-superhe...

Zach found so many smart things to say about a spray chart about which I can only say: shit that’s weird.

For far too long I thought his name was Bruce Boch and that “Bochy” was the nickname version because that’s how baseball people nickname-ify everything

Aaron Nola looks like if early Office seasons John krasinski never had a Hollywood glow up

wrote today in the bandwagon about what any of this has to do with sports substack.com/home/post/p-...

I was terrible at the game we played to guess who dives the most at every position but I invite you to play along

“When you apply the sort of zero-sum mentality of sports to anything else, it’s easy to justify punching down. Whatever it takes to be top dog, assert your dominance, be undeniably manly. Be a winner by delighting in the losses you can identify elsewhere.” open.substack.com/pub/bandwago...

i laughed at this tweet, then came back to it later, said it to myself in the david attenborough voice and laughed again

if you're interested in the article Gary Cohen brought up after Lindor's hit in his third PA, about batters who excel after becoming familiar with a pitcher, you can read it right here, courtesy of @srbrown70.bsky.social. It's free to read w/a basic (free) sub:

Lindor just broke up the no-hitter... while facing the very impressive Max Meyer for the third time in this game.

oh yeah this whole bandwagon was basically brought to you by research from Stephen at baseball prospectus
